McArthur schools superintendent Wallace E. Blake resigns after six years to take a similar role in Carey. Carey Council Plans Public Arrest List for July

The Carey police recorded 30 arrests in July for offenses including reckless operation speeding drunken driving and leaving scene of an accident. The village council voted to publish the names of arrestees in fairness with all homes listed.

Wagner Names Zone Committee For Carey Zoning Study

At the Village Council meeting Mayor G C Wagner named J E Dziebarth Georges Jaster J A Schira Arthur N Stevens Herbert H Miller and Paul A Burson to a zoning commission to study Carey zoning feasibility. The panel reports by October 5. Building permits were approved for Paul Presler John Dow Robert Walter Wayne Brinker and an alley vacation ordinance was read twice. A Clay Street drainage project costing 600 was approved for fall work. Memorial Park Board members praised the park and a plan to fund it with an extra mill levy for three years was supported.

Two Ohio women die in train collision on Route 152

Miss Arlene Rickle and Miss Edith Smith died in a collision when Rickle drove into a halted Pennsylvania freight train on Route 152 near MBroadacre Jefferson County. Rickle, 26, died later in Ohio Valley Hospital. Smith, 53, a Lykens native, died at the scene. The crash prompted a blood drive at First Methodist Church August 14 and sparked memorial services across local churches.
