Wittenberg Choir to Tour Latin America This Summer

Wittenberg University 65 voice choir will tour Latin America for 27 days in June and July visiting Colombia Ecuador Peru Chile Argentina Uruguay Brazil Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Jan and David Burson siblings from Carey will sing and sightsee amid twenty concerts in major cities including Bogota Quito Lima Santiago Buenos Aires Montevideo Sao Paulo Rio de Janeiro Caracas and San Juan. The trip marks the choir’s fourth abroad concert tour and adds to a history of global travel since 1961. Jan Burson graduates June 11 1968 and plans teaching work. David finishes his freshman year this June in pre law studies.

Talent Contest Slated Friday by Kappa Delta Phi

The Amateur Talent Contest sponsored by Kappa Delta Phi Sorority is set for Friday night at 8 at Carey High School Auditorium. The two hour show features about 20 local contestants of all ages with prize money for the top ten. Entertainment includes the Gospel Rhythmaires and North Clemmons on banjo. Master of ceremonies is Ralph Peiffer.

Carey churches unite to form Memorial United Methodist Church

Two local congregations, Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church and First Methodist Church of Carey, join in Dallas on April 23 to form Memorial United Methodist Church. They will share ministry while remaining independent, with plans for joint worship, pulpit exchanges, combined vacation church school, and outreach to the community.

Flying Boat Described By Carey Businessman

An early morning collision at Findlay and Vance streets involved a 4 ton boat on a semi truck and a 1964 Chevelle. Minor injuries were reported to Mr and Mrs Simonis, with damages estimated at 1200 dollars to the Simonis vehicle and 20 dollars to a Ford. No citations issued.

Father and son die in silo accident on Ohio farm

George E. Beis 60 and his 18 year old son Don died of accidental asphyxiation last Thursday evening in a Sycamore area silo. They were unloading corn when blockage halted flow and Don entered the silo roof hatch to free the corn. George Beis found dead while trying to reach him. Both were members of United Church of Christ in Sycamore with multiple local affiliations. Funeral services were held Sunday.

Drug Rep Speaks at Carey Kiwanis Meeting

Hal West, a salesman for Merrick Sharp and Doane, spoke to the Carey Kiwanis at Bowl-Era Restaurant on April 22. He shared Civil War era anecdotes drawn from veterans he knew as a boy. Jack Twining of Amerace’s Molded Products Division joined Kiwanis as a new member.

Allan Thott Earns Wings in Air Force Cadets Ceremony

Allan Thott, son of Mr and Mrs Risner of Carey, completed the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program and earned his pilot wings at George AFB California. He was commissioned in 1986 and is a member of Delta Upsilon. His wife Marie and daughter Cantone accompany him in the ceremony, reflecting his family support.

Wyandot County voters will choose one Democrat and one Republican for county recorder in November. Vandalism Report Filed at Carey Foodland

The Carey Police Department received a Sunday morning report of vandalism believed to have occurred Saturday night. A vodka bottle smashed a front window at Carey Foodland, making a small hole in a large pane. The case remains under investigation.

In Carey Mayor's Court David Lee Snyder of Route 4 Upper Sandusky forfeits $20 bond for failure to yield. William D Perkins of LaGrange Illinois forfeits $20 bond for passing at an intersection. Wealthy Wentling of Route 1 Carey pleads no contest to failing to heed a red signal, fined $10 plus costs. Carey Volunteer Fire Department responds to multiple calls

Three fire alarms turn in. Carey volunteers respond to a Wharton County home blaze that was a Wharton fire department practice. A garage fire on Findlay Street caused no major damage and a trash fire near Beck Tile was brought under control. Another grass fire on state property caused no damage.

Businessmen Association Holds Large Attendance Meeting

Carey area businessmen gathered at Jack Rall Restau rant to discuss finances memberships and leadership.
