Pauline Frederick stars in Salvage a Robertson-Cole drama shown at the Strand Theatre with a cast featuring a devoted woman a gold driven husband and a woman wrecked by life. The story follows these distinct types as fate intertwines their paths in a human drama destined to leave a lasting impression.
Carey’s two day sales feature discounts on household goods and furniture. Advertisements list select items with limited quantities and special prices at local stores on page 2 and page 7.
Mrs. Mary Cross died at Findlay hospital Thursday night at 12 30. She fell weeks ago and broke her hip and had been in failing health. Her home was three miles south of Vanlue. She was seventy eight and survived by daughter Ida Lutz of Wharton and son Clarence Cross of Vanlue. Also survived by brothers John Shull of Boston W T Shull of Findlay H T Shull of Mt Blakbard I L Shull of Carey five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mrs S B Beitler of Columbus came Wednesday to assist parents celebrating their 60th anniversary observed quietly Thursday. Mr and Mrs Myers remain active and in unusually good health for their years. Carey friends extend hearty congratulations.
The Evangelistic campaign at the Methodist church attracts strong attendance each night with large Sunday crowds. Mr. Shumate leads singing and the chorus with duets nightly, and special delegations mark each session. Upcoming events include High School night, joint Sunday school classes, and Palm Sunday services with an afternoon Teen Age service for ages 13 to 19.
Last Sunday Mr Ward Grieb of Springfield preached to a large congregation. Special services begin next Sunday and continue through Easter with Dr Chas Bauslin of Harrisburg preaching. Weeknight topics include Acception or Rejection Seclusion and Solitude Fellowship and Friendship and Sorrow and Suffering. Mrs B L Wallace of Marion will sing. Easter Sunday regular services return with a special evening song service.
Three young boys broke glass on the Findlay road between the power house and the Vanlue Fostoria crossroads last Sunday. The incident clogged a busy roadway with autos amid good weather. Authorities were informed and an investigation will follow for malicious highway damage.
On Sunday April 9 the Hocking Valley implements new daily passenger times for trains north bound No 31 at 11 34 a m No 33 at 4 29 p m No 35 at 7 44 p m and south bound No 32 at 8 51 a m No 134 at 12 01 p m and No 36 at 6 12 p m.
Three McCutchenville men were arrested Friday night for drunkenness and brought before Mayor Mulholland. One was fined 50 dollars plus costs, the other two 10 dollars plus costs. Costs totaled four dollars each. The men claimed the liquor was purchased in Carey.
The national convention of the League of Women Voters will be held April 20 29 at the Hotel Belvedere Baltimore Md Reduced railroad rates of a fare and a half are being offered.
The Ladies Aid of the Adrian M. E. church will hold a chicken supper on Tuesday evening April 18 from 5 30 to 10 30. Everyone is invited to attend.
Harry Lawton, former inspector at the Liberty Tire plant, has traveled to Findlay to assume a similar role. The move places Lawton in a new assignment with comparable duties and responsibilities.
Wyandot county reports include paving on Saffell avenue and hearings on Veith ditch in Crane and Salem townships with April 17 set for road assessments. March saw thirteen marriage licenses. a Jefferson Day banquet planned. and local officials discuss Tymochtee ditch, tax statistics, and wireless demonstrations.
Carey Kiwanis members gathered for a Monday luncheon marking a hundred years of uninterrupted peace with the United States. Rev. W F Martin presented a 100-slide stereopticon tour of the Canadian Pacific route from Nova Scotia to Vancouver. A brief talk by Squier of the Big Four and appearances by Alfred Shumate and W D Goble complemented the event. next Monday’s business meeting urged full attendance.
A team owned by Gail Kimmel near south town bolted while being repared and ran north on Vance street tearing down a Carey Electric Telephone Co pole. They pulled loose from a hay rack at North street and wrecked another pole at the corner before the injured pole rotted at the base.
Cyril Kramer attends meeting of eight baseball club secretaries forming the Central Ohio League for 1922. Other teams include Upper Sandusky Bucyrus Galion Crestline Plymouth Willard. Carey Tires schedule plans three home and one away games monthly.
Rally Day at the United Brethren Carey charge gathered members from Carey Beech Grove Hebron Lovell and Union Bethel. Speakers included ministers J Frank Miller Fostoria Jgfin O Rhodes Fremont Cal Vernon Roop Findlay Geo W Lilly Bloomdale T O Copus Bloomville and pastor L C Reed.
The front of the building on St. Vance Street housing A J King's confectionery store is being remodeled. Two large display windows and a door between will replace the previous narrow windows and two separate doors.
Mrs T G Laws Mrs P Wha ley Brayton Davis Clyde Wentling Will Wright and Foster Savidge were in Findlay on Tuesday purchasing a piano for the Crawford M E Church.
Excursion to Columbus on Sunday April 9 by train via Hocking Valley. Train leaves Carey at 351 a. m. arrives Columbus 1125 a. m. Return departs Columbus 520 p. m. Central time. Fare 1.78 round trip.
The Federal and Carey Ohio porcelain plants resumed operations after closures of several weeks. Hiring increases as more workers are brought on daily.
L. J. Taber director of agriculture Columbus will speak at the Pioneer Picnic on Thursday June 8. He recently attended the Washington conference with President Harding. A 33 piece band from the Jr. C U A M home at Tiffin will provide music under Prof. J B Moore. Marion Bland recruits teams for morning horseshoe pitching and tugs of war. Committees include Parking Decorating Reception Finance with local residents named.
A Friday program at the H S auditorium featured Supt A M Hornby presiding. Students from Sycamore and Carey high schools presented sides on levying a general sales tax to fund a soldiers bonus, with judges from Upper Sandusky, Sycamore and this city awarding the affirmative. Musical interludes included vocal solos by Martha Hart Blanche Thomas and piano pieces by Dorcas Brown and Mrs G V Sutphen.
Residents of Carey may view the Holy Land Christian life drama The Eternal Light projected this evening and Friday April 6 and 7 at the Strand. The film portrays the life passion and death of Christ filmed in the Holy Land and Egypt birthplace of our Christianity.
Walter Agen arraigned before Squire Joseph Bolish on statutory charges filed by Miss Martha Owens. He was bound over to the common pleas court with bond set at $300. He furnished bond.
The United Brethren Aid hosts a bazaar and chicken supper at Woodman Hall on Saturday evening April 15. Easter eggs and flowers will be on sale. Supper price is 50 cents from 9 to 11.
Tuesday evening April 18 features a confetti dance at Moose Hall Carey with Paxton Orchestra of Findlay providing music. Admission is $1 a couple and everybody is welcome from 10 to 11.
