World War II ace meets Obama during White House visit
Fred Dungan, a 92 year old World War II Navy fighter pilot from San Clemente, stood with President Obama in the Oval Office as the president signed two measures to honor the American Fighter Aces Association and the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders. Dungan described combat thrills as harsher than the calmer moment with the president and recalled his radar aided night flying and wartime engagements, including four Japanese planes shot down on July 4, 1944. He wore a Friends of the Aces lapel pin and volunteers with the San Clemente Police Services program.
