Mothers Plead for Release of Boys in Canton Robberies

Fire kills home and lowed into well rescue near Newman
Ferdinand Lohr aged 68 set fire to his Newman home after chasing his wife from the house. He cut the windlass rope to flood the fire and then jumped into a nearly dry well, surviving by a miracle as rescuers pulled him out. The house burned completely and Lohr, with broken bones, was taken to the county infirmary, his wife 72 years old.

Pearl Barnes 28 a Wells Fargo Express driver from 1016 Franklin Street fired a revolver shot into his chest about 1130 AM Tuesday in an open Fulton Street field near a large tree.
