A national drive to collect discarded dolls for orphans on Thanksgiving grows with 400 orphan asylums requesting dolls for 38 000 children. Women organizations coordinate local collection and rehabilitation of dolls, praising the program as nonsectarian and locally driven.
Brock and Schlee, Detroit aviators, reach San Francisco aboard the Korea Maru to resume plans for a Tokyo to Detroit flight. They intend to depart Oakland airport the next morning, escorted home by Burns and Sterling, amid a warm welcome and massive well wishes from friends and relatives.
Indianapolis September 29. Dr Frank W Creger president of the Indiana Medical Association warns that Indiana's dry law creates a dangerous situation unjust and contrary to public policy. He says the law prohibits use of whisky for medicinal purposes and prevents physicians from using remedies they deem best for patients.
Whimsical item notes American Legion units returning from France need doughnuts and tickets upon arrival in Beverly Hills. In a separate snippet seven state governors argue in Denver over ownership of the Colorado River with Mexico claiming rights to the river’s flow.
Former United States Senator Homerene told reporters in Canton that he is not discussing politics. He quips about politics and notes he is busy. He recently returned from Europe with his wife and plans to go to Washington for the Fall Sinclair cases set for Oct 17 in federal court.
The federal government dropped contempt charges against 70 of 92 National Cash Register Co. employees from Dayton and Canton. Twenty two defendants remain set for trial in December, including Fred I. Schmelding of Canton. charges against William S. Clark Edward H. Schmelding and Harry A. Wackerly of Canton were dismissed.
Dayton reports the county jail is equipped with two 45 caliber machine guns delivering 960 rounds per minute. Delivery included 1,500 rounds, 10 drums of 20 rounds and two 60 round drums. Two bullet proof vests for deputies were ordered alongside existing city police gear.
Columbus Sept. 29 Attorney General E. C. Turner addressed Exchange Club members urging a halt to judicial system politicization and a return to strict enforcement of laws. He attacked the Marshall bill and Anti-Saloon League activities, stressing law respect as the era’s top issue.
Albany reporters and Democratic leaders in New York say Gov. Al Smith is virtually the frontrunner for the 1928 presidential nomination. With William G. McAdoo out, Smith appears ascendant in the West and possibly to win Southern support later.

He arrived at 8:35 walkable to the operating room and was reported stable at noon. doctors H. M. Schuffell and L. D. Stoner attended him. He has longtime sinus trouble and had been off duty.
Columbus sept 29 Charles C Jones secretary of the Ohio State Automobile association condemns the Marshall justice of peace bill in an open letter to Bishop Theodore Henderson of Cincinnati district Methdist church He says Henderson is misinformed and recalls the auto association with 164000 members voted unanimously to oppose the measure at its spring convention.
Wayne B. Wheeler former Anti Saloon League leader was likened to the Apostle Paul in a chapel eulogy at Ohio Wesleyan University. Ref I L McElroy head of the department of applied Christianity said Wheeler caught a vision and followed it.
Roy A Young, governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, will assume his new post as governor of the Federal Reserve Board on October 4. The announcement came from Secretary of the Treasury Mellon.
A man believed to be James Baxter of Petroleum West Virginia was fatally struck by a southbound Northern Ohio Power and Light traction car about 7 30 p.m. Wednesday north of Greentown. He died en route to Mercy hospital from a fractured skull. Coroner T C Mc Quate said the victim was on the tracks contrary to law. Identity was uncertain but “James Baxter Petroleum W Va” was found in his pocket. The ear was a Cleveland Canton Limited due in Canton at 8 p.m. The body was returned to Greentown by Meyers and Son Co undertakers.
In Columbus theater negotiators in a wage dispute publically state positions. Musicians Federation leader George W. Cook warns a strike if no deal by Oct. 9. Keith's Burns O'Sullivan hopes for settlement. Loew's Charles Burns says he will hire new union musicians if needed. Current weekly scales run 55 to 70 dollars. several raises sought around 50 percent.
In Cleveland a bride of five days attacked husband Frank Vronkovich, 88, with a razor, leaving him near death at St. Alexius hospital. The wife Pauline, 35, is held at Central police station amid church marriage dispute.

In Hazel Park Michigan on September 29 two hundred women teachers appeared at a school reception without the mandated ankle length smocks. In New Brunswick New Jersey authorities defend banning Serena Rabke a married 18 year old from high school as necessary to protect young girls from a married woman's viewpoint. In Cleveland a 47 year old county jail inmate Dr Homer J Thompson enters the eighth day of a hunger strike while deputies defend jail treatment. In Thomaston Maine Benjamin W Turner serving a life term for murder ends a five day fast after meeting with his attorney. He will receive small feeds and be placed in a workshop after regaining strength.
In Nelsonville the Lick Run coal mine, run nonunion by Don McGill, resumed operations today with 40 miners. The mine first opened nonunion in December and loaded about 350 tons daily until July 29, when it closed amid three marches by union supporters and two gun incidents. McGill says a bunkhouse has been built and miners will be housed and fed on site, with a new poison gas device added to deter future attacks.
Concord New Hampshire September 29 24 year old college graduate Misa Helen Owen dolyn Jones announces she will run for mayor opposing Mayor Fred i Marden ex policeman. She campaigns with post election accomplishments slogan and aims to be the first woman chief executive in the capital.
Cleveland was awarded the 1925 convention of the Ohio Knights of Pythias, holding its annual meeting today. Cleveland defeated Logan by 326 to 800 in a vote. The proposal to alternate future conventions between Columbus and Springfield was defeated.
Wilhelm Ibens, 18, died in a Cleveland hospital from bullet wounds believed to stem from a lovers quarrel. Police investigated the shooting as a domestic incident amid local turmoil and ongoing inquiries.
In Toledo district court, Ben Rudner seeks to overturn a second degree murder verdict. Prosecutors urge the verdict stands. defense argues possible first degree guilt only if any verdict is valid. Arguments were heard and the case was adjourned for further review.
City council welfare committee held a meeting with hospital representatives and decided to send city cases to both Mercy and Aultman hospitals. A report to council on Monday will propose using both facilities under a fiat private room rate and standard ward charges. The city historically spent about 10000 annually for several hundred cases, with Aultman currently handling most due to Mercy crowding.
