Columbus Sept 29 The primary referendum committee dissolves and a primary modification committee is formed to back a constitutional amendment affecting direct primary laws. Charles L Knight of Akron chairs both bodies and aims to run a nonpartisan statewide educational campaign.
The board of trade backs another drive before the Ohio Public Utilities Commission to install guard gates at Bettes corner crossing after a Pennsylvanial freight collision sent a car 50 feet, injuring Mrs. Joe Majjasie of Lorain and leaving Charles Majjasie with minor injuries.
The Primary Defense League asks Ohio Supreme Court to dissolve a temporary order blocking Thad Brown from placing a proposed conditional amendment to Ohio's primary system on the ballot. James A. Brown, counsel for the league, argues against Assistant Attorney General Griswold's motion. The restraint was granted previously to ex-State Senator John F. Burke of Ely.
The American Red Cross urged immediate funds for Florida relief and Canton responded by voting $5,000 to be sent at once. Fund officials acted after a telegram signed by John Barton Payne requesting prompt collections. The Canton Red Cross chapter said it would continue fundraising through the week.

Ohiowide pursuit continues for the kidnapers who took three year old Isabel Zendarski from an Orwell farm home a week ago. Cleveland detectives indicate no clear motive and say the family has no known enemies or wealth to hint at a motive.
A change of venue motion for Louis Mazer’s murder trial is to be filed by defense counsel E L Mills. Prosecutor McClintock seeks immediate jury drawing for 75 jurors. Judge Diehl will decide whether to move the trial to a neighboring county if the motion succeeds.

Vera Cruz city and 50 surrounding towns endure catastrophic flooding as a tropical hurricane moves inland. Five feet of water cover central Vera Cruz, with six-figure damage feared, dozens of villages wiped out, and several steamers sunk. Efforts by authorities and newsmen continue to assess casualties while a second hurricane could threaten the region.
From Mexico City Sept 29 hundreds of casualties are reported as Vera Cruz endures one of the worst hurricanes in years. Millions of pesos in damage, six foot flood in parts, rail and telegraph disruptions, ships driven to sea, Villa de Mar wiped out and Pieres Magon leveled. Dozens left homeless amid heavy distress.

The Bayard cutoff on the Pennsylvania railroad will open to freight traffic on Monday Oct 25. The 18 mile Canton to Bayard route will shorten trips by about 45 minutes, saving roughly 16 miles of travel between Canton and Pittsburgh. The project, begun near Fairhope, reduces grades from about 9 percent to a much gentler slope.
The Ohio Adjutant General announced the first bids for labor and materials to erect and complete Carnton's armory.
