Paris dispatch reports the Allied push in Artois and Champagne driving German second and third lines. battle conditions include storms, rain, fog, and heavy losses on both sides with German prisoner counts around 25,000 officers and men north of Arras and in Champagne.
Stark county Western Reserve alumni from all departments will banquet at the Courtland hotel in Canton on Thursday October 7 at 6 p m. Dr Charles Frankling Thwing WRU president will be guest of honor and speak. Over 100 local alumni expected with husbands or wives.
Unconfirmed report from Port au Prince states Haitian rebels attacked and dispersed U S Marines at Petite Riviere last night with an American officer reported killed.

Safety Director Kunkel ordered a mechanical traffic device to replace the hand signaling of the officer at the Market and Tuscarawas intersection. The stop sign rotates to show directions to traffic from both sides, similar to systems used in Cleveland and Detroit.
City officials pressed the Baltimore and Ohio crossing guard to staff from 6 AM to midnight due to dangerous conditions. An inspector from the public utilities commission will assess the site soon. Gates at Gibbs Avenue and 12th Street NE could be proposed if the new commission favors them.
City service director Kent orders the Northern Ohio Traction Co to begin repairing pavement around its city tracks. If no action is taken immediately, he will appeal to the Public Utilities Commission in Columbus. The legal department supports cross street repairs by the city if a railroad company refuses voluntary action.
Harry Heavy McDermitt of 733 Arlingtonavy NW boasted of muskmelons rivaling expert crops. Neighbors peeked into his spring garden and found the largest melons ever seen, but they were pumpkins mistaken for muskmelons.
Clothiers of the city vote to start Dress Up Week on October 1 to honor fathers. The national event begins the first week of October and includes an advertising push and special window displays by local merchants.

A loan arrangement urges small investors to purchase bonds issued by the Allies. The deal promises borrowers net proceeds of 355 million dollars after premiums and interest are settled. The Morgan firm earns 10 million dollars for arranging the transaction.
Details outline a 600 million dollar five year loan with 5 percent interest. Investors pay 96, underwriters also 96, yielding about 5.4 percent.
