Maj. Gen. Harry Foote Hodges, famed as the genius of the Panama Canal, dies at his Lake Forest home at 69. He designed the canal locks and served as assistant chief of the Panama Canal Commission, later commanding the 76th Division overseas in World War I and retiring in 1922.
Canton tally: one dead and a woman injured in two auto crashes. The boy, Robert Head, 12, sat on a rail near Navarre Road and 15th Street SW when a yard engine moved cars, six others followed, and four ran over him instantly. Coroner ruled accident.
Early Wednesday two bandits robbed the Ziegler Tire and Supply Co. at Cleveland and 9th St NW forcing attendant Joe Kinker of 1408 15th St NW into a rear room. They emptied the till, fueled their car at the pump, and fled. Kinker gave police a description of the robbers.
