A gasoline station fire and two explosions occurred near Bedford-ay and St W Monday morning. One motorist, Willoughby, rescued an injured man, Jes Newcomer, who died at Aultman hospital. Fire officials investigate ignition source and blast damage.
A note of changes in store classifications for the Fall Exposition outlines separate classes for women and children's ready wear and for dry goods. About 95 windows will be prepared with new displays in readiness for the event. The exposition begins with a 7:30 p.m. session and will feature exclusive window displays downtown.
Partial weather notice predicts warmer conditions with temperatures around seventy. An evening opening for a business college is advertised, while the Visiting Nurse society announces a fund of 915000 to support city health initiatives.
Maude Smith of Massillon sued Charles Smith for divorce in common pleas court claiming mental disorder after he was injured in a Main Street auto crash. Judge Hubert C. Canton area railroad officials said the Pennsylvania Railroad would not be affected by outlaw unions returning to work. Division superintendent C. W. Coe stated the ranks are filled, with many applications, and all old workers are back on the lines.
Riverhead N Y Sept 13 Mrs Joseph Stone 27 died at Southampton hospital from lemon extract poisoning. Police report a surge in flavoring extract sales with some products containing 60 to 80 percent alcohol.
In Joliet Illinois the 19 year old daughter of Mrs Mary Kolwiszki was found emancipated after seventeen years in a cellar. She cannot walk or talk and has unnaturally gleaming eyes. Health authorities, neurologist Dr Sigmund Krumholz and diagnostician Dr Bernard Klein will pursue prosecution of those responsible.
London reports the government challenged miners to back down or fight after Robert Smillie asked American miners to strike with Britain. Officials said the strike seems inevitable, with plans for motor transport of supplies and rationing of sugar meat flour and milk. The triple alliance committee and miners union were to meet to seek a settlement.
The comptroller of the currency issued a call for the condition of National Banks as of the close of business on September 8. In Columbus a separate call was issued for state and private banks as of September 8. Listings include entertainment ads and a lumber sale notice.

Constable W. J. Cooper of Osnaburg faced a Canton court over carrying a revolver found near a grocery. He claimed he never carried such a weapon and the judge was uncertain. Cooper was acquitted on the concealed weapons charge and fined $5 plus costs for intoxication.

Six youths aged 18 to 20 are jailed on grand larceny charges for stealing an automobile from Garrett Indiana on September 3. Police say the group rode a box car to Indiana and returned by stealing the hospital front vehicle.
Harry Williams, North Canton’s first police officer, made his first arrest on his first day on duty. He detained Thomas Wade after noticing a revolver handle in Wade’s hip pocket. Wade was jailed in the village bastile and later bound over to the common pleas court. Williams had been appointed by the village council after the town previously had a marshal.
Lawrence Maass reports the Kesex-co grand jury will begin an investigation tomorrow into the securities firm Charles Pongi's Securities Exchange Co after summoning 25 witnesses. A man was stabbed in the abdomen Sunday afternoon during a craps game at Cherry Ave and 110th St SE after a possessor of $40 was accused of stealing from a drunken participant. Reed, who tried to reclaim the money, was stabbed and rushed to Aultman Hospital in a Miller Blanchard ambulance. The assailant, described as a Negro in army trousers and white sneakers, fled amid a brick and club chase. name unavailable Monday morning.
New York report says Mrs Mildred Harris Chaplin wife of Charlie Chaplin decides to drop divorce and sue for a share of the $3 million estate. Her attorney cites possible action to tie up Chaplin properties if no settlement is reached. Chaplin remains unconcerned as he sleeps at the Ritz Carlton awaiting a 1 PM conference.
London reports the Daily Herald published an alleged Moscow subsidy offer of 375000 dollars, triggering suspension of trade and political talks between Prime Minister Lloyd George and Trade Commissioner Kameneff. Kameneff denied Moscow sourcing the offer and reportedly funded trading firms to ship cars and clothing to Russia awaiting a treaty.
In Cleveland at Gordon Park a 13 year old, Robert Felix, is credited with saving a man from drowning. He, his father, and 15 year old Herbert Haeste dived after the call for help from a diver’s platform. Felix reached the man first and supported him until rescuers arrived.

Police exchanged over fifty shots with five gunmen who burst into Adam Lombroski’s home to rob and kill him. Lombroski’s son Pelix was shot in the abdomen as officers closed in. One robber was captured. $144 was taken.

Cleveland dispatch reports Patrolman Gabriel Stansiey was cleared of blame after he fired during a clash with a large crowd resisting the arrest of Michael Graham and John Janko, a 14 year old. The crowd hurled bricks and clubs. a brick struck the officer and Janko was wounded in the head. The assailants dispersed as Graham was arrested.
DaltonMass physician Dr Bruce W Paddock says W Murray Crane had another comfortable day and is slowly gaining. He cautions it will be a week before Crane is entirely out of danger, though the outlook is encouraging.
