Detectives consider local amateurs behind the theft of a United States mail bag from a Pennsylvania station on the night of September 3. Value estimated around $1,000. The bag was loaded onto trucks after trains arrived in quick succession, and found slashed the next morning in a pipe shed. Investigators pursue clues to arrest suspects as officers note jewelry and valuables may have been taken.
President Wilson addressed about 5,000 at an auditorium rally, declaring no need for reservations to the peace treaty. He framed the treaty as a magna carta of labor, argued domestic matters are not interfered, and urged prompt U.S. ratification without Cabinet or League reservations.

Columbus September 8 Dr John Ferguson adviser to the president of the Chinese republic told the Chinese Students alliance at Ohio State University that the league of nations underwrites world finances and Wall Street interests. He argued against an omnibus treaty and warned it would reverse liberty by moving from rule of law to rule by man. Ferguson cited Shantung issues and said boycott against Japanese goods continues while peace in the Far East remains elusive.
David Gibson organizer for the Tennants League of Greater Cleveland says the group formed to fight high rents aims to affiliate with the Cleveland Federation of Labor. He notes landlords of non profit making stance will be welcomed and a strike could be possible though no plan is set yet. He was formerly foreman of a special grand jury investigating the high cost of living.
