Ottumwa dispatch says Wilkins Priest aged 57 was pulled from a 35 foot well after a cave in Tuesday morning. He was stuck in quicksand and fighting for breath when rescuers freed him.
A worried finder traced two financial instigations tied to an attempted swindle of a half million dollars through New York banks. Detectives and Waggoner of Telluride State Bank and Norwood State Bank pursued possible suspects in Nebraska or Kansas as telegrams and letters prompted a wide inquiry. In Denver, New York telegrams sought deposits of 500 000 dollars to aid a named grzener. Priest injured in a cave-in and rescue efforts described.
