Ray Hammond of 1711 Garfield av SW, a member of Co C 47th Infantry 87th Division, is wounded in action on August 12. His elder brother Chester A Hammond, sergeant in the 37th Engineers, also serves in France. Both brothers left for service in 1917. Ray arrived in France first in May, Chester followed in July. Ray was employed by the American Bridge Company before enlisting. the brothers were briefly separated at Camp Sherman.
