United Press dispatch from Antwerp reports King Albert of Belgium was slightly wounded in the hand by shell fragments while leading Belgian forces near Antwerp. The war office has not confirmed the report and Albert has been praised for his leadership and courage.
Canton held its annual Children's Aid Society tag day with more than 450 tags sold as volunteers in red crosses collected funds to help the Port of Healthy Babies. The effort aimed to reach a $2,000 goal as checks including several hundred dollars arrived from supporters.
Increasing cloudiness today followed by showers and thunderstorms tonight or Sunday. Warmer tonight. Local temperatures show yesterday at 9 p m, today at 7 am, and 2 pm with expected maximum and minimum values.
A four person party including Miss Ida Krebs and Miss Minnie Krebs were bruised when an Akron auto stalled on New Berlin road was struck by an interurban approaching the public square. The crash left the auto a total wreck and several occupants confined at home.
Isadore Gottlieb pleads not guilty to an assault charge in Squire Rinehart's court. J. K. Woll, East side merchant, presents the case. Gottlieb released on $50 bond. September 11 set as trial date.

City officials and the N O T plan a meeting within days to settle sprinkling of streets and payment for past work. Welty for the company says the N O T wants to help care for streets while the city proceeds with its suit to collect past payments. Ruff endorses speedy action but will let the lawsuit proceed.

United Press dispatch from London reports the European war to date has cost 1.87 billion dollars. Statisticians estimate a daily loss of 55 million covering lost earnings, destruction, and economic damage but excluding extraordinary events like the Louvain destruction valued around 100 million.
Roy H. Young received a suspended 30 day sentence in the workhouse after pleading guilty to petit larceny for taking two bags of flour to feed his starving babies. The burglary charge was withdrawn after Chief Smith and Officer Biffle supported his claim of need.
German war dispatches claim Paris within reach with ordnance experts saying Paris forts are no harder to crack than Namur. Officials report continued success on France operations while Austrian and Russian fronts see reinforcements and withdrawals. Despite heavy casualties, German morale remains steady as wartime taxes and losses are framed as necessary for national welfare.
A 15 cent per barrel rise in flour was noted Saturday, totaling 50 cents in a week. Flour moved from 6.59 to 7.00 per barrel, oats at 4, corn at 81, and wheat at 1.05 per bushel. The anti-administration faction of the Canton WCTU won Friday, filling principal offices with insurgent candidates led by Emily Bitterspaugh who was elected president. A large turnout of over 70 members crowded the meeting as insurgents controlled ballots and campaign promises secured a decisive win.
