City fight to remove shack sparks arrest at Canton
Charles White a contractor of 322 Cleveland Ave NW was bound over to the grand jury on charges linked to Safety Director Hexamer order to tear down a shed at 3rd Street and Cleveland Ave NW. He was arrested on a warrant for malicious destruction of property and removing and stealing property by Detective George Beresford. Hexamer vowed support for White saying he would tear down the shack himself if needed and noted city notices to Caldwell & Evans were disregarded. White claimed the city hired him to remove the shack and that his arrest was a joke. The partially torn shed blocked traffic near the hotel site on Cleveland Ave NW. A preliminary hearing was waived with binding over to the grand jury in common pleas court.
