Washington reports United States forces are being organized into distinct units with British and French integration ending. A second American field army is implied as preparations for a major spring operation continue, while front actions near Lys and Soissons reflect ongoing Allied pressure and German withdrawals.
The N O T will place 25 to 30 women conductors on Cleveland street cars within 60 days due to a male labor shortage. Akron will follow in 30 days. Women will be housed at barns with supervision, and air equipment will ease door work. Training mirrors male procedures with equal pay based on service time and hours worked.
Officials announce 25 000 county registrations and 15 000 city names for the September 12 draft. Registration runs 7 a m to 9 p m at precincts with central county supervision and special plant registration at major factories to handle foreign language registrants.
The First National Bank and the First Trust and Savings Bank merged with Isaac Harter and Sons Bank, creating a banking group in Canton valued at over 15 million dollars. The combined institutions will operate as the First Trust and Savings Bank with deposits guaranteed by the buyers and move to consolidate operations in the near future.

Five men were placed under arrest in a slacker raid conducted late Saturday night by officers of the American Protective League. One suspect, 21, admitted the registration card he carried belonged to another man. Ady, The-in Roth & Hug's Square Store.

He cripples five, downs two, helps comrades escape, singlehandedly routs a Hun detachment, captures a guard, ferries a French officer to safety, and lands upright with both wounded and prisoner in Allied lines.
Allied forces advance on a 100 mile front with French and American troops along the Aisne to Peronne, and British gains from Lens to the Flanders area. The Wotan line portion is cut for 12 miles toward Cambrai, threatening the Hindenburg line and potentially forcing a larger German retreat.
