About 50 alumni of the Kent Normal school gathered for their annual banquet at the Woman's Exchange on Wednesday afternoon. The YMCA, which had announced the event, could not seat all banqueters as extra tableware had been sent to the YMCA camp.
Disbarment proceedings against Atty F E Crankshaw cannot be heard until his release from Columbus jail. Atty A M McCarty, member of the charges committee, said the hearing is a trial and the accused must have a chance to appear in his own defense.
Councilman Witter said he favors fast action to move buildings encroaching on city sidewalks behind the proper lines after the engineering department finalizes the correct lines and permanent markers are set at downtown intersections. Action at the next council meeting, scheduled for September 13, is anticipated due to pushes from Attorney C G Herbruck and H H Inkitt.
Adolph Schuler a diesinker about seventy was found dead in bed at 1028 Market av 8S by landlady Mrs P B Wissler about 11 am Wednesday. Last seen Tuesday at 4 pm entering the house. Coroner B J Douds thinks heart trouble caused death. No known Canton relatives.
Canton Needlework Guild members in California will attend a national Needlework Guild of America conference in San Francisco on Monday September 13. Delegates from western states will meet while eastern members may visit. The event aims to strengthen western branches and includes a national exhibit at the Palace of Education during the exposition.
A local society plans a Sunday program at St. Anthony's Catholic church Liberty SE to honor Saint Bartholomew. Washington reports that all concessions Britain may offer to speed shipments of American owned goods from Germany and neutral areas will be considered unofficial by the United States. The president and Secretary Lansing decide the stance, aiming to keep direct shipments unmolested and to formalize this in an upcoming note. Negotiations remain largely unofficial, with Lansing advising as counselor rather than as secretary. The U S maintains it has not conceded legality of British actions affecting trade and objects to cotton contraband under Grey’s pledge to Ambassador Page.
George Schildt twenty two of Canal Fulton is killed instantly at the Transue Williams plant in Alliance when a heavy hammer is released while he works beneath it. The accident may have been caused by his own movement or a fellow worker pulling a nearby lever. He was adjusting a die when the mishap occurred. Critics note repeated accidents from heavy hammer controls this year.
The Stark County Bar Association has served formal charges on attorney F W Crankshaw at Franklin County Workhouse where he is imprisoned. Charges filed months ago. Crankshaw was located in Columbus and papers were served by Franklin County sheriff. Hearing date not yet set.
Amanda May Hamilton files for divorce from Edward Hamilton alleging infidelity and citing his Mann Act conviction in 1913 at Catlettsburg Kentucky. He serves a 30 month federal sentence in Moundsville West Virginia. Attorneys Piero and McCall represent Hamilton and she seeks restoration of Bowen as her maiden name.
Charles K. Keaster has filed suit for divorce against Florence Olive Feaster alleging infidelity and neglect. He states they married in February 1914 and that she associated with other men until their home was broken up the following June.
Edith Housel files suit against Rebecca Housel in Canton. J H Robert Son represents Edith as attorney in the case.

The funeral of Mrs. A. D. Snively of Yellow Springs Ohio was attended by Mrs. Reuben Decker Mrs. Abram Whitmire and Mrs. M D Essig of Canton. Dr. J H Snively and G W Snively of West Lebanon Ohio also attended the services.
Massillon officials report the viaduct over the Wheeling and B&O railroads canal and the Tuscarawas river is nearly finished and will open to traffic in days. The east approach is under construction. The Crystal Springs bridge is complete and in use and Massillon Canal Fairboard work progresses rapidly.
Medical officers of the U S immigration service probe an Asiatic cholera outbreak aboard the Hamburg American liner President Lincoln tied up at Hoboken since the war began. About 200 aboard include crew and Chinese refugees, with quarantining ordered as officials assess illness origins.
City officials and council members traveled to Akron to attend the opening of Akron’s new water supply system at the dam and reservoir site two miles north of Kent. The delegation included Mayor Stolberg, Councilmen Carr and Sanders, Service Director Kent, City Engineer Sarver, and Frank Beck. The visit aims to inform Canton waterworks improvement plans, with officials expecting a worthwhile trip.
The county purchased 1500 tons of coal for winter use at the infirmary. A. F. Sonnhalter, from a nearby mine, won the contract with prices of 1.50 a ton lump 1.40 three quarter lump 1.25 run of mine and .75 slack. A separate contract awarded to Cameton Press for 16 000 special assessment blanks at 61.50 and 3000 checks for 16.50.
Judgment was taken Monday in common pleas court on four cognovit notes. The cases include George D. Harter Bank vs W. H. Beard and others for $200, vs G. H. Beard for $125, and vs L. E. Beard for $65, plus R. L. Lenhart vs H. W. Carr Co. and others for $1,030.80.
Clara Wiedmaier obtained a judgment against Kiddey Boiler and Welding Co in common pleas court on a cognovit note for 608 dollars and 50 cents.
