Federal state and city investigators push toward a grand jury as they review widespread crime in Canton and Stark County. Prosecutor Walter Ruff Safety Director M J Braucher and Burns detectives say the probe covers many months and aims to indict police or others if evidence warrants. The Burns team continues in Canton with private funding while federal agents plan a broadened inquiry led by an assistant prosecutor to aid Ruff.

Judge Day in common pleas court voids the Kendall Tire & Rubber Co. Massillon transfer to Ariston Tire & Rubber Co. The deed and tract are cancelled and conveyed back to Kendall. Stockholders who exchanged Kendall for Ariston stock will receive their holdings in Kendall.

Akron plant of General Tire and Rubber Co reports paying off 1 400 000 debt, final bill from wartime expansion. Manager William O Neil says last May owed 2 500 000 and now debts are cleared. Sales unit to close November 1 shows 30 percent rise over 1920. Dividends unsuspended unlike others.
Dense fog blanketed New Jersey Meadows as the midnight Pennsylvania Express crashed into a local train near the Manhattan transfer. Postmaster General Will H. Hays, Chief Post Office Inspector Simmons, and others were injured, with Hays treated for shock and muscle strain at the Waldorf Astoria. Fifteen passengers required hospital care.
Joseph Davis wins $34 verdict against Frederick W. Pierson in an $50 000 alienation case over his wife Martha Davis. Jury deliberated over two days with testimony of alleged visits and disputes cited, Pierson denying wrongdoing and claiming marital strife. Pierson to pay court costs.
London reports Robert Williams, president of the International Transport Workers Federation, says British workers will scrap the Anglo Japanese alliance. He predicts possible world war as they unite with four war industries to counter imperialism and align with Washington conference aims.
In Columbus a new officer nicknamed an Adonis stirred crowds and flirtatious attention. Patrolman Ripple, handsome and popular, drew women who paused to admire him. Mayme Belton, 23, greeted him and was booked for violating the anti flirting law as officers intervened.
United States Prohibition Commissioner Roy A. Haynes declares no permits will be issued for beer production in states where state law forbids it. After a long session the five big railroad Brotherhoods cancelled the October 30 strike order. They accepted no wage cuts for a year and agreed to submit wage and working condition matters to the railroad labor board. Hooper and Lee led pro peace positions while firemen and telegrahers cancelled plans with the board backing.
The community Hallowe'en parade lines up on McKinley avenue at Tuscarawas street W and moves south to Third Street SW east to Market avenue north to Fifth Street NW west to Cleveland avenue and south to the Auditorium. Prizes totaling 1000 dollars are set for marchers dancers and spectators with a continuous program of pictures vaudeville and dancing in the Auditorium and prize distributions after every second dance. The committee promises red fire music banners and impersonations from Napoleon to Charlie Chaplin.
Washington October 28 The operators’ council flatly rejects proposals by the United Mine Workers to end the Mingo mine war. Frank Walsh urges mediation but Col Z Taylor Vinson refuses any talks, keeping bloodshed in the West Virginia coal fields unresolved.
