The board of education awarded contracts for equipping McKinley High School machine shops at a special Saturday session. Westinghouse Co received the electrical equipment contract while various firms received machinery work contracts. Machinery will be ordered immediately and shops should be ready within three months.

Washington October 22 The Senate adopted the compromise agricultural bloc amendment setting fifty percent as the maximum surtax on incomes by a 54 to 13 vote. An effort to substitute 32 percent failed 15 to 52 and a bid to keep 65 percent was defeated 2 to 43. An amendment to lower the rate from four to two percent on incomes under 5000 remained pending at adjournment.
