Brooklyn Grimes outpitched Bagby as the Dodgers beat the Cleveland Indians 3-1 in the first world series game. Wheat and Johnston sparked the Brooklyn offense with timely hits while Bagby struggled with control as Cleveland failed to score in the first two innings.
Play by play notes show Cleveland and Brooklyn trading scoreless frames then runs as Grimes extends his control. Key moments include Speaker advancing, Kilduff making a tough grab, and Griffith driving in a run as Olson beats the throw for a single.
Grimes led Brooklyn with a single and scored on Griffiths double as the B clutch around him. Cleveland’s ONeill out and Jamieson bunt failed, but Wamby and Olson combined on plays while Wheat walked and Olson scored. No runs in the first half, but multiple forced plays and a collision sent Grimes to the bench briefly.

The box score notes two base hits by Wheat Gardner Griffiths and Speaker with J Johnston stealing a base. Bagby allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with one walk. Uhle struck out three and Grimes two.
Secretary of Labor William B. Wilson deferred ruling on reopening wage discussions between Pennsylvania anthracite miners and operators. If operators refuse further talks, up to 200 000 miners could strike. The wage demand ranges from 10 to 123 percent with a $4.20 minimum per shift and $5 a day for laborers. Phillip Murray and Thomas Kennedy presented the appeal.
Secretary of Labor Wilson charged special interests profit from wars back the fight against the league of nations in Massillon. He argued a world peace league would end munitions business and cited Democratic labor records and Governor Cox's progressive support. He spoke with W A Julian for U S senator and contrasted the Canada border peace with global harmony.

Ralph Karl Venus a 31 year old former Pennsylvania Railroad detective was killed in a high speed crash at Death Curve on Louisville road near Canton Tuesday night. Julius Sprankle was seriously injured with head contusions and taken to Mercy hospital. The wrecked car owned by Sprankle had only four days in his possession. Venus body held at Sluss undertaking after coroner investigation. Venus survived by wife. Sprankle operated a pool hall and restaurant at Stark Siding.
