Officials report 4 774 women and 5 482 men registered for November elections in Canton and Alliance. Massillon saw 786 men and 1 191 men register while city totals reached 10 616. Next registration is Friday in Canton. Election board pleased with opening day turnout.
Clerk A J Hirstus awoke to collect about 40 women registrars who had taken precinct registration records home instead of delivering them to the board of sections as required. Some were roused at 3 am to make immediate returns while others refused to go to the city hall claiming it would delay their morning dress.
Officials project a large turnout with about one third of the term registered Thursday. J Kauffman, chief deputy, says registration will spread over three days to avoid finish congestion. Weather may have reduced women’s participation more than men, keeping male electors ahead two to one.
A large party of Stark County Young Men's Christian Association boys began a three day inspection tour by automobile. They will visit industrial plants in East Liverpool Youngstown Pittsburgh and nearby points of interest en route.
