A hungry burglar entered George Bitah's Canton home at 612 11th St SE on Friday night using a skeleton key after the family was away. The intruder escaped with meat, cheese, flour, sugar and bread, prompting a local criminal report.
Detectives chased about six fresh leads Friday as they investigate Irwin J. Kieffer’s death from a gunshot wound at Mercy hospital. Suspects Herbert Huprich and Edward Namey, detained after a gas station robbery, face Monday court action as officers probe Tuesday night movements and the carjacking in southwest Toledo.
Senator Lodge of Massachusetts denied attempting to secure liquor withdrawal permits for Craven Brothers of New York, testifying before the Wheeler-Brookhart committee. He asserted he never heard of Craven Brothers and never asked for whiskey permits, countering testimony by Gaston B. Means that Lodge aided the company.
Bernard Donahue, 40, Belmont County coal miner, received a gubernatorial pardon for manslaughter before returning home from Columbus. Mal Daugherty of Washington Court House Ohio won a writ of habeas corpus from Judge A M J Cochran in Cincinnati federal court. The order shields him from testifying before the senate committee probing his brother Harry M Daugherty and blocks disclosure of his bank records sought by the probe.
An injunction issued in common pleas court Saturday bars J A Valdnagle and R F Maier of Massillon and S F Weiler and Fred G Smith of Cleveland from removing theater equipment from the Grand theater Massillon. Neil D Schworm, owner of the equipment including seats flooring asbestos curtain and other apparatus, obtained the order claiming planned removal. Mrs M H Franks manager is relinquishing control and the house will reopen Monday under new management. Lynch Day Fimple Lynch represent Schworm.
Gladys Kelley, 19, of 410 Sixth Street NE, sustained cuts to the head Saturday morning after two automobiles collided in Cleveland Avenue SW. The cars were driven by James Geyer of 1621 Garfield Avenue SW and J. T. J. Kinta.
Canton veterans and organizations marked Memorial Day with an influential ceremony. Over 400 American flags were handed to Canton school children by the American Legion, presented by Major Charles A Stolberg. The flags symbolized trust in the nation’s future as pupils from city classrooms received them from First Trust and Savings Bank.

George Tokis of 1229 7th St NE was robbed by two bandits in his garage late Friday night. They demanded his hands, relieved him of car keys and $1.25 in cash, then fled in a waiting car driven by a third accomplice. Tokis reported the robbery to police shortly after.
Six persons are dead and nine others are injured while traveling in Ohio traffic accidents across the state on Memorial Day. The deceased include Mrs. Clara Brown of Grove City and her infant daughter, Albert Thorne of Schenectady killed in Cincinnati, Mrs. Hazel Smith of Cincinnati, William Landkrohn of Jewett, and Mrs. T. J. Hogan of Cleveland.
AKRON Ohio May 31 After 25 hours the jury in the Marion Webb murder case failed to reach a verdict and was discharged. Prosecutors will seek a new trial date. Webb a Columbus horse trainer, was indicted for Frederick W Gerhardy’s murder in a hotel lobby last October after Gerhardy suspended him at Northampton race track. Webb also wounded Peter Callen of Toronto. DANBURY Conn May 31 Joel Wolfe Thorne Jr 10 gained possession of the Thorne estate less than an hour after his New York banker father was killed by a car and just after a divorce decree. Custody passed to the child via the decree.
In Washington on May 31 Japanese Ambassador Hanihara formally presented to Secretary of State Hughes the protest against the new immigration law. No one commented and officials said the text would not be released publicly for some time.
Theodore Abbey reports his car was stolen Friday night from in front of his residence at 1128 Cherry ay SE. Police were notified Saturday about the theft.
Police hunt a gang of expert safe crackers who pried open the Liberty theater safe during Decoration Day receipts, escaping with 3500 dollars. Investigators believe the burglars hid under theater seats after the raid.
An automobile owned by F. P. Nickelson of 1201 4th St NW was badly damaged Friday evening when struck by a machine driven by Dr. Ackerman of 412 Gilmore NW. Nickelson’s car was parked in front of his home at the time of the crash.
Nathan Leopold Jr and Richard Leeb, sons of wealthy families, confessed to abducting and killing 13 year old Robert Franks in Chicago on May 31. They said the plan began last November as an adventure and the boy happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The victim was strangled after a blow with a chisel and a demand note for $10,000 was sent to his father.
Prohibition agents report success as eastern universities push to dry commencement week. Columbia University enforces a no alcohol rule on campus during class reunions, aligning with Dr Nicholas Murray Butler’s stance. Alumni are urged to avoid bringing or supplying liquor on university property.
A. L. Fink of Buffalo charged the Senate committee with Frank A. Vanderlip offering $1000 for perjured testimony against President Coolidge. Wild disorder erupted in the committee room as the charge was made.
Canton police report a record May arrest total near 1,977 by noon Saturday, with expectations to break 2,000 before month end. The previous high was 1,805 in April. Over 1,100 May arrests involved violations of the one hour parking ordinance.

Three bandits robbed two messengers for the Argentine State Bank in Kansas City Missouri and escaped with 20000 dollars. The crime duplicated a November 15 1923 holdup of the same two messengers for the same amount.
Burglars entered the home of Fred Smith at 311 Schwalmay NE on Friday night using a skeleton key to pick a rear door. They fled with $40 in cash and jewelry valued at $25 while the family was away.
