Bellaire Ohio May 31 Prediction that negotiations for a settlement of the nation wide coal strike will occur within six weeks was voiced by William Roy vice president of the Ohio United Mine Workers on the eve of leaving for Parkersburg to witness a strike injunction case. The improving industrial scene boosts coal demand while non union areas fail to maintain April 1 stock reserves, Roy says. The Parkersburg case involves 18 eastern Ohio and West Virginia miners in a notable injunction dispute stemming from wartime union organizing at West Virginia and Pittsburgh Coal company mines and a later shift to non union operations. A miner was killed by a guard during the dispute and miners were cited for alleged failure to obey the injunction.
