Whitacre, returning from Columbus, says he may run again for the 13th district seat but has not decided. He discusses talks with Governor Cox about appointments and politics, then heads home to Waynesburg, signaling a busy day ahead.
Senator Burton of Cleveland fights to block Whitacre era police appointments in Ohio’s eighth district. He claims to cooperate with Len Townsend to hold over appointments in Ohio Michigan and Minnesota. A Republican caucus urged Townsend to delay Democratic picks until President Wilson approves. Burton filed notice in the Senate to oppose all Ohio appointments Taft made but blocked by Democrats.
Roosevelt's $10,000 libel suit against Editor George A. Newett of Ishpeming moved slowly as defense and prosecution prepared. The court session saw lingering Civil War veterans at a quiet Grand Army hall while witnesses for the defense and prosecution prepared to present their cases into next week.
In Chicago on May 30 a man known as Bad Dan, twice escaped the gallows, died after a livery barn blaze at 3319 South Halstead Street. He was thirty five and had a long police record. The body was identified immediately after it was dragged from the rubble.

Miss Mary Schwartzlose claims the Navarre woman’s cat is the foster mistress of a talking feline in Massillon. The cat, placed by Miss Margaret Day, meows into the receiver whenever the house telephone rings, growing louder with use. A reporter heard the cat’s “M-e-oo-o-w” during a call.
On Auditor Donahey's recommendation the Democratic county executive committee selected Joseph Dumoulin as Canton’s Republican member of the county board of review. The interim board will cover until the Warnes tax commissioner law is enacted. Harry Weiss and George Brissel are expected to be named tax commissioners. Possible mid summer appointments may be delayed if enough signatures trigger a referendum.

By United Press Scranton Pa May 30 a judge reserved decision when an attorney for boys accused of breaking the blue law of 1794 by playing ball noted that baseball did not exist at that time.
In New York on May 30 1900s era report Thomas F. Ryan noted he left for Europe with four cases of buttermilk totaling 48 quarts loaded by porters for the financier. He stated he would drink it during the crossing.

New York May 30. De Wolf Hopper, the prominent stage star, refused comment on Altoona dispatches claiming his future father-in-law David Fury disapproves of Hopper's choice. Fury warned against a repetition of Hopper’s past marriages, saying it would be an outrage he cannot tolerate. Fury’s daughter before marriage was known on stage as Elda Curry.
Canton residents gather to honor fallen soldiers with a 1:30 p.m. procession and graveside service. A fading band of veterans will march past, salute flags, and listen to taps as flowers cover the graves of comrades.

Proceedings in the Schilling mayoralty contest move toward a June ruling by the supreme court. Walter W Ruff, attorney for Schilling, reported the court will decide a motion to advance the case and possibly grant 10 days for Welty to file a petition in error and proceed on merits before summer adjournment.
City lighting committee plans a citywide survey to replace 275 moonlight and 501 all night lights with 75 all night and 200 tungsten units. Canton Electric Co may supply tungsten at 18 per year per light under a new five year deal.
Canton completes its school census reporting 14 297 children eligible for next year, up 412 from 1912. Superintendent J K Baxter notes growth is widespread but does not immediately overload present schools, though continued increases may require action.
Oliver J. Strayer, secretary of Canton Stamping and Enameling and East End Welfare leader, planted a four by forty foot lawn in front of the company office. The lawn between Kloveray and Harford streets is now the only green spot in the area, drawing residents to watch daily watering and mowing as Strayer tends the strip in shirt sleeves.

In Columbus May 30 Governor Cox attacked President of the state board of commerce Al len Ripley Foote over the Warnes tax law. The pamphlet urged veto by referendum, criticizing state control of district assessors and public tax returns as a political fabrication and an assault on home rule.
Walter Steward, held in Akron justice court for support, was released Thursday afternoon on a writ of habeas corpus. Attorney Branche argued the judge had no authority to commit a man for a felony and that he should be bound over to the common pleas court. Assistant Prosecutor Kennedy contested the writ. Judge Kirchbaum granted it.
The death of Jess Wolum aged 3 follows an operation. Survived by wife, parents and three sisters. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the home, with Jr. O U A M in charge. Interment at Westlawn.
The Memorial day edition of The Canton Daily News is issued at 1 a.m. today. Advertisement notes a round trip excursion to Cleveland via W. & L. S. for $1.25 on sale Saturday, with good return Saturday or Sunday for $1.10, and Sunday only.
Canton voters face a 225 signature petition rule for city commissioner candidates under the proposed charter. Signatures must equal two percent of last gubernatorial voters, totaling about 11,252 statewide. Petitions due up to 25 days before the September primary. the charter sets a two-candidate per seat result.
Harry J. Miller of Dayton was released from prison after a midnight plea to Governor Cox at his residence and a sympathetic appeal to the governor's mother. Miller had been serving two years for assaulting a superior officer in the Ohio National Guard during the Dayton flood duty.
