A golf bag with a shotgun was found. The captured gangster was Sam Hunt, 27, linked to Capone liquor syndicate members.
Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd concentrates on expedition duties as the Eleanor Bolling nears port, towed by the City of New York. The vessel was expected Saturday night or Sunday morning after meeting the nearly calm seas about 600 miles out.
Graf Zeppelin roars past the equator on its 3000 mile Pernambuco to Havana flight. The dirigible, heading toward Havana and Lakehurst, crosses halfway and is projected to reach Cuba at dawn tomorrow. A radio report from Giquia Field logged positions late last night as the craft neared the equator with good speed.
New York May 29 Several persons robbed of jewelry in recent months viewed Police Commissioner Mulrooney s private display of precious stones to identify pieces. Mrs L W Herman of New York picked seven diamond ruby emerald and sapphire bracelets and four other items from the 26 taken in the 300 000 seizure at the Hotel Commodore. She said the pieces were stolen from her at the Ambassador Hotel in Palm Beach Florida. Later pieces from the 1 000 900 cache found in bank vaults after the arrest of Robert C Nelson of Sheepshead Bay LI were identified by a Newark jeweler as having been stolen from a Kohn salesman on a train between Grand Rapids and Chicago in 1926.
Funeral services for Louis Cardinal Lucan archbishop of Reims and France's hero prince will be held June 3. Condolences pour in from all over the world after the aged cardinal died early yesterday at the archbishopric.

Fimple was unveiled in the courthouse by his daughters Mrs J H Fisher Canton and Mrs J C Morgan Syracuse N Y The ceremony followed his burial a year and a day earlier Judge Fimple who advised in Washington and Carrollton served as common pleas judge in Stark Carroll and Columbiana counties and was an assistant land commissioner under Roosevelt The portrait by William Findlay hangs above the fireplace as a memorial to a jurist revered by Stark and Carroll counties and the bar association.
Miss Amy Johnson the 22 year old British aviatrix who flew solo from London to Port Darwin escaped injury in Brisbane today when her plane sustained damage during landing.
The Prest-O-Lite Co announced immediate construction of an acetylene producing plant at 17th St NE and the W. & L. E. railroad in Canton. About 20 operatives start, with a four acre site on property once owned by Julies Gabord, to serve local welding and metalworking demand and support a Canton branch under Linde Air Products management.

In Montanas Piniele near Belle Fourche a doctor nurse and pilot died when the airplane crashed during a late night flight to reach a patient. The emergency run began after Dr. A S Sheriffill contacted from Piniele about impassable roads, with Robert Crawford piloting and Miss Lindstrom as the nurse. The craft was reported to have been caught in a gale hours after takeoff.
Red Cross workers distributed food and clothing to hundreds of refugees driven from homes by the Red River overflow near Shreveport Louisiana. Armistead and Past Point were marooned with about 4 000 people evacuated. The flood crest neared Natchitoches as appeals for aid poured in from Jefferson Texas for victims of Big Little and Black Cypress rivers.

Washington May 29 Conferees abandoned most tariff reform proposals in a deal on the Smooth-Hawley bill returning to the existing 50 percent adjustment authority by tariff commission with presidential approval. President Hoover favored the compromise as outlines indicate. Smoot said the bill would be sent to the Senate floor for renewed action before adjournment.
A special House committee led by Rep Fish plans an exhaustive summer investigation into alleged Communist activities in the United States. The panel, authorized by a recent resolution, includes Rep Nelson of Maine Rep Rachmann of New Jersey Rep Driver of Arkansas and Rep Eslick of Tennessee. Chairman Fish says he has substantial material to review before announcing specifics.
American police pursuing Jake Fleagie, sought for murder, moved toward Chihuahua state after a dice game robbery linked to a bank heist in Lamar. Sheriff Loyd Alderman of Lamar and Sheriff David Hayton of La Junta led the search. extradition papers prepared.
