The cornerstone of St Pauls Catholic church Canton is laid on June 5 with Rev W A Sculle as administrator of the Cleveland diocese. A parade with Knights groups and a special Cleveland train precedes a 10 30 am open air mass led by Rev Joseph Paulus.
Memorial day observances in Canton honor Civil, Spanish American and World War veterans with church services at First Presbyterian. The G A R holds memorial exercises Sunday at 8 pm with Rev Alfred Lee Wilson delivering Memories and Hopes. American Legion and military units participate in a Monday parade and lineup.
Disabled World War veterans will be transported by Red Cross vehicles for the Memorial Day parade. Women of the Red Cross chapter invite all such soldiers to meet Monday at 1 30 PM in the Red Cross rooms at the Central Savings Bank Building. The park commissioners have appointed R. R. Bobbitt as playground director, signaling a shift to centralized, paid management of city recreation.
In San Diego Mrs Kathleen Cannon is dead and her husband Albert Joseph Cannon dies after a double shooting at a local hotel. Police say Cannon fired from a second story window striking his wife as she walked home from work. He then killed himself with a revolver. The couple had traveled from Texarkana with four young children.

Six thousand poppies were sold on Canton streets by the American Legion and the Service Star Legion. Proceeds fund markers for World War soldiers and flowers and flags for arriving bodies from France. Mrs. H. B. C. Gaskell led the sale. veterans in uniform helped. Cantonion wear crimson poppies Monday to honor the fallen. Service Star Legion and American Legion members escort in the Memorial Day parade.
The free city clinic has proved a great aid to the juvenile court, with doctors’ reports guiding dispositions. A boy accused of writing obscene material was sent home after examination. Other cases revealed venereal infection, treated on site. Canton clinic handles all cases free. Mrs. Mina Getz arranged similar service in the Massillon clinic for West End youth.
All 644 Fellows are urged to attend Nimistla Lodge Tuesday evening. A large class will receive the Initiatory Degree. Refreshments will be served, followed by a smoker. Come and enjoy the evening.
