County commissioners appointed Guy Tilden architect to prepare rough plans and cost estimates for a new county jail. A conference with judges and officials will determine space needs before fixing the bond amount to be placed before voters in November.
An act of God was a falling tree limb that struck Mrs. Eva Bobrof in Cherry Ave SE on March 21 1911, causing injuries that led to her death. City Solicitor Walter Ruff argued the limb’s fall was unpreventable by ordinary care, and the limb was later destroyed. The administrator of the Bobrof estate sues for 10000 damages, with trial possible this term.
At Father Point Quebec May 29 estimates place deaths around 800 to 1,000 after the Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Ireland collided with the Storstadt in dense fog. The vessel sank ten minutes after impact with 1,100 aboard, including Salih Army delegates bound for England. Rescue steamers Eureka and others searched for survivors while Captain Kendall was among those saved.
City officials clash with North Industry residents over a proposed sewer route along the Canton North Industry road through the Narrows. Commissioners decline permission for use of the roadway, risking a costly siphon and potential court action. Service Director Kent urges building on the Moser site as an alternative.
The school nurse Miss Greenough said that despite three days of extreme heat there has been little suffering among students and none of the school children have suffered from the heat.

Dr. C. E. Schilling of Canton was treated for appendicitis and underwent an operation at Ingleside hospital early Thursday performed by Dr. Skeeles of Cleveland. His condition was reported to be much improved later that day.
The Canton chamber of commerce forms an industries committee to secure new industries. A survey of successful city efforts will guide a composite plan for Canton. Landowners near rail lines will file plats detailing factory sites for the committee’s future use. No definite factories were discussed at the first meeting.
Canton may add another police woman by June 1 if the Safety Director Kun kel's recommendation is approved. He notes Mrs. Lillian Manderbaugh, the present matron, is overloaded and an additional efficient officer is needed. He cites the value of women officers and suggests a pay of at least $60 monthly.

Alfred Hager of Brownstown received 1049 dollars from the state industrial commission for injuries suffered in a mine accident at the A and Lime Co. North Industry mine. The brief item notes a related advertisement for child operated toys and home goods.
