Former Judge J. W. Warrington died at his Cincinnati residence at 2:36 this morning after a stroke last Sunday. He had been presiding judge of the U S circuit court of appeals from October 1, 1911, serving until retirement last year. Funeral arrangements were not yet announced.
Captain Eddie Rickenbacker attempted a transcontinental flight from Redwood City but had to return due to fog. He lingered at the field until 8:32 before resuming once visibility improved for a second attempt.
Russell Thomas and Kenneth Mauk were sent to Mansfield Reformatory by Deputy Sheriffs Daily and Ehman to serve indeterminate terms for motor vehicle theft. The boys were sentenced by the juvenile court.

Helwig arrested late Wednesday on reckless driving charges and fined 15 dollars plus costs after arraignment before Police Judge Bowman. Officer Dorland reported Helwig drove west on the wrong side of the street in Tuscarawas.
Engineers from the state highway department approved the Navarre Justus road work on Wednesday. Inspectors found the construction satisfactory in every way as a new brick surface is laid over the old macadam roadway.
Frank Miller of 908 Highst NW reported his Ford coupe stolen Wednesday night from Springfield Lake Park. Akron police were notified. An unknown man fled L Greenbaum Jewelry Store after examining a $20 gold fob, described as a novelty item.

A jury in Judge Day's room deliberated all night in the Amadio Scarsella case on an indictment for second degree murder and was discharged after four for acquittal and the rest for conviction. Scarsella, jointly indicted with Peter Spera and Gregorio Tiberio, faced the shooting death of Henry D'Ura near the Pennsylvania station. Defense argued no link or motive and no weapon evidence. The defendants are out on bond.
Rear Admiral A S Fechteler, commandant of the fifth naval district, died at his quarters at Hampton Roads after a period of illness. He directed coast defense plans from Maryland to Florida during the war and became district commandant in 1918. His daughter Elizabeth married in his room recently due to his illness. He was to retire in September.
Detective Chief Swope said six Negroes and a white man were detained on suspicion person charges after a Wednesday roundup at the fair grounds. The men are booked as William Browning William Moore William Evans Fred Bell Russell Berry Charles Beacke and William Smith. they were described as circus followers mingling with crowds on the show grounds.
Morton Harter was elected president of the Camera club of McKinley high school for the coming school year at a meeting Wednesday afternoon. Ada Beardsley was chosen vice president and Elizabeth Van Voorhis became secretary. The club will hold a picnic Friday afternoon to conclude its year.

City solicitor A. Fisher said he will file actions to recover 3173.05 based on state examiner findings. He noted illegal payments totaling 20094.26 cannot trigger actions but unwarranted payments must be recovered. Examiner tied former sewer superintendent A C Shekles and Samuel Herbst to $1413.60 in dubious vouchers. Some smaller findings may be settled without suit.
In Youngstown on May 26 Mrs. Louisa C. Hanson was held by police after the death of Albert C. Hanson a 42 year old city fireman. He was found dying with a bullet in his brain after Mrs Hanson summoned officers to their home. She has not yet explained a motive for the shooting.
New York reports a glut as nearly 100 carloads of southern strawberries arrive, driving wholesale prices to 10 cents per quart. Finest quality berries still fetch 18 to 20 cents a quart. The season’s first North Carolina blackberries have arrived.
Clay D. McFarland an 88 year old farmer in Howards Hollow was struck by lightning and killed while plowing. A horse on his team was killed and the other horse escaped unharmed. He told his wife he was on his last row when the bolt struck. Also notes a local election and registration reminder.

John Demos, a penitentiary prisoner, testified in Judge Day's court against Frank Stopes in a clothing store robbery case. Demos described Stopes as actively involved while the other three Greeks pleaded guilty. Stopes denied participation. Demos had been brought to the room under guard after police interrogation.
