Italy expands its airship program with the City of Milan as the flagship, ranking fourth among marine squadrons. The fleet includes fifteen land and two sea squadrons, with active service seven. Submarine numbers and aviation schools are noted, highlighting modernization and training.
The American steamer Nebraskan, from Liverpool to Newark, reportedly struck a mine or was torpedoed by a German submarine. She is returning to Liverpool and is expected to arrive tomorrow. Early rumors claimed sinking off Ireland or steering failure, with latest reports saying she remains afloat.
Italian General Cadorna reports frontier passes in the Cadore district captured and several Austrian towns occupied. He says Italian forces advance about 60 miles along the front while Austrians retreat and destroy bridges to hamper the push.

The vessel was built in Camden, N J in 1892.
The war office and admiralty in Rome release only official updates while the front lines show no major new events. Hospitals are being prepared to treat casualties as Italy proceeds with wartime measures and civil defenses amid ongoing hostilities.
In thick fog off the Massachusetts coast the Holland America liner Ryndam, en route from New York to Rotterdam with 77 passengers aboard, was damaged by the tramp steamer Joseph J. Cuneo. U S battle ships and the Texas rushed to the scene, transferring most passengers and crew as water flooded the Ryndam’s hold. The Cuneo delivered 160 aboard, while the Ryndam flew the Dutch flag and is described as a slow vessel built in 1901.
William J Putman sixty seven retired farmer killed himself in Wilmot Tuesday afternoon after a weakened mind. He survived by five children Dela Koehler Beach City Pearl Peck Cleveland Alva Putsian Pittsburgh Mary Zeeks Cleveland and Worthy Putle Canton Coroner Douds viewed the body Tuesday night.
