The charter commission plans to settle three issues at Tuesday night’s session. A recall court amendment by A Staudt faces opposition, while supporters argue the recall section is needed. The charter, already lengthy, is expected to move toward final adoption and printing.
Welty and McCarty representing plaintiffs against the board of falion in a suit to stop a North Market high school filed briefs with the court. John Blake hopes to have the case advanced for trial this week. if not, the matter may hang and be set for trial later.
In N J on May 26 two strike pickets were arrested after a silk mill dispute. Disorder occurred as workers maintained a close watch, with one arrest involving a school girl and another a grammar school pupil. Both received ten days in jail with the offenders.
Mrs. Thayer, long a leader since the movement began in Canton, will be succeeded as head of the city suffrage committee. Her departure to summer work in Hart raises anticipation among suffragists for a strong replacement and continued leadership.

In the dynamite conspiracy trial of William M. Wood and Frederick K. Atteaux the defense showed that 2605 dollars in checks covered expenses for Atteaux’s mill city trips, not payoff. William H. Dwelle testified the March 1912 payment of 505 dollars funded travel to Fitchburg and other mill towns to prevent the Lawrence strike.
R Winthrop Pratt, designer of the citys new sewage disposal plant, will visit Canton Monday afternoon to explain his plans to Service Director Harbert and other city officials. A tour of the Moser site is planned and discussion of testing Canton water to remove mineral deposits will be considered.
Prosecutor Pontius will file a motion with the supreme court to strike several alleged immaterial matters from the answer of J C Welty of the N O T in the quo warranto case of the county against the N O T to oust the company from the Canton Massillourd. He will present the motion in Columbus with a possible hearing date next Tuesday. Periodic eye examinations may preserve eyesight. Chief of Police Smith released a statement vowing to ignore unsigned communications and calls without informants while investigating Sunday saloons gambling and immoral houses. He said officers will not chase anonymous tips though several night officers were recalled for duty, planning limited arrests with uncertain convictions.
Howard S. Thayer resigns as Manager of Today's Magazine effective July 1 after a personal dispute with H. M. Geiger. George T. Hill Jr. arrives in Canton as the new manager, bringing five years at McCall's Magazine and a decade with the publication.
The state public service commission received J A Robinson of Canton petition alleging N Q O T failed to comply with repair orders. It will send an inspector to Canton for a special inquiry, possibly arriving Tuesday.
Wise, Smith and Krabill of Canton won the contract for paving the Canal Cover road between Howenstine and Sparta, four miles long, at an estimated cost of about $100,000. Work is to begin this summer.

The Democratic executive committee recommendation may keep Harry Wels and George Irbese from state tax commissioner posts under Governor Cohn. A slim chance exists they could be appointed later, or not at all. The Ohio Hqults Association, claiming to aid manufacturers, plans a June referendum push on the Warnes taxation and Kilpatrick laws to remove limitations.
About 300 saloonkeepers applied to the county auditor in the past two weeks for the option to pay half the Dow tax for 1913. Those paying half must apply by May 26. The second half begins in June, and any who owe $500 by then face suspension or $1000 for the full year. Monday was the deadline to file this year and the auditor’s office was crowded.
Rev Mabel M Irvin argues that a seven fifty weekly minimum in Illinois offers little deterrent to white slavery and is inadequate for women and minors. She says it is poor policy to grind people to the lowest livable amount and that such a minimum fails to aid moral reclamation.
Patrolmen Gus Weidman and ld Swope set a city record by catching 27 auto and motorcycle speeders in one day. The tally for the speeding crackdown over the past week nears 50 arrests. Names listed include Ed Zimmerman and Kendall Kaytol among car owners. motorcycle owners named include F B Sharp and Hugh Langill. More names expected from Columbus. hearings set for Tuesday morning.
Stark County inmates face indefinite terms in the state penitentiary as a new law from the last legislature sets the State Board of Administration to determine sentence lengths. Only those convicted of treason or murder in the first degree receive definite sentences.
An explosion followed by a coal oil fire destroyed the home of John Marshall near Little Hocking Ohio. Mrs Marshall, age 40, daughter Elsie, 5, and son Jamie, 16, died in the blaze while three other children are gravely injured. The tragedy occurred as Mrs Marshall tried to light a fire with an oil can.
Mayer Turnbull refuses to submit the annual budget to council Monday due to a drop in tax receipts from a new honor law. He plans a conference with the finance committee this week and says he will be ready to submit the budget next Monday night. He stresses the difficulty of choosing where to cut expenses.
Mrs. Mary Friedman was fined $25 and costs with a suspended sentence by Judge Quinn for disorderly conduct. It was her second offense, according to testimony. Detective W J Osborne, in special police employ, testified she made improper advances to him.

Marquette Michigan circuit court opens a libel case over Roosevelt sobriety claims. Witnesses include Edmond Heller and George Newell while jurors are drawn from regular and special venires. The defense challenges damages and calls Roosevelt’s allies and doctors as witnesses as the case centers on a Sunday-Times style accusation of drinking habits.
Service Director Ray Harbert confronted N O T officials in city hall threatening immediate track repairs or he would hire workers to fix them and bill the costs. J C Mekroate chief engineer NOF T Bea Garrity superintendent of construction and Dan Scanlon division superintendent promised repairs amid uneasy laughter. Harbert warned councils had failed before to act.
Ordinances to appropriate 450000 for the new West Creek Park and 6000 for water works prospecting and experimental purposes will be introduced and given a first reading in council Monday night. If passed on suspension the measures pave the way for starting the improvements.
Harry Moffit was arraigned in police court Monday for drunkenness after a night of heavy drinking Saturday. Judge Quinn ordered him to donate $2 to the Fourth fireworks fund, remarking it was a case of from fire water to fire works as Moffit paid and left the courtroom.
May 26 report from Mr Columbus states Secretary of State Graves received the first installment of an initiative petition aimed at blocking liquor shipments into dry areas. The anti saloon league backs the movement.
