Blast sinks yacht Playmate injuring six in Cayuga Inlet

A back firing engine caused the 40 foot yacht Playmate to explode and sink in Cayuga inlet Ithaca N Y injuring six. Capt C EB Brown Mrs N 8 Valentines, Mrs Anthonie Weller and George Major deckhand were aboard. Mrs Brown and Mary Lee Valentine were rescued from the water after the craft foundered.

Cable fixed linking Put-In-Bay to mainland after ice broke old line

A new telephone and telegraph cable was laid on the bottom of Lake Erie and connected today between the mainland and Put-In-Bay Island. This provides Put-In-Bay telephone and telegraph service for the first time since the previous cable was broken by ice and currents on January 3.

The seventh district appellate court reversed Belmont County Common Pleas Court sentences of five years and $5,000 fines for Lillian Andrews Thomas Johnson and Charles Gwynn for distributing Communist literature during an International Red Day demonstration in Martins Ferry.
