The Moldavia struck by a torpedo in the English Channel sank in about an hour after 4 a.m. on May 25. Fifty three American soldiers from Company B, 58th Infantry, were missing and presumed killed. Officers and crew were saved. troops were reoutfitted on land.

The German submarine that torpedoed the British steamer Inniscarra was sunk by an American destroyer shortly after. Prisoners from the submarine have been landed. Thirty seven were missing from the Inniscarra, a 1420 ton steel steamship built in 1903, 280.5 feet long, owned by City of Cork Steam Packet Co., Cork registered.
