TEN KILLED IN OHIO WEEK END AUTO CRASHES. Columbus May 23 Caroners and county officials today were investigating 11 week-end automobile accidents in the state which resulted in 10 deaths and 12 serious injuries, some of which may terminate fatally.
Paris May 23 Capt Charles Lindbergh, decorated with the Legion of Honor and hailed by officials, accepted Ambassador Herrick’s invitation to remain in Paris for several days. He hopes to fly over and really see the town, having seen little of Paris from the air on arrival and still wearing borrowed clothes except for his Atlantic shoes.
Washington honors Robert T. Small veteran reporter and AP star who died at 49 from heart disease in a Washington hotel. Known for versatile dispatches from national politics to sports and crime, he covered floods, the Derby, world series and elections. He rose from Atlanta youth to prominence on the Washington Star and the Associated Press.
The grand jury probing any link between ousted police chief S A Lengel and the murder of Don Mellett delays starting, with Judge Krichbaum charging the panel. A Wheel ing and Lake Erie passenger train hit the Goodwill Union Mission bus driven by Jack Workman at 324 Cherry near 12th et NE by the W. and L. E. crossing. The bus was pinned between the train and banks and sustained heavy damage while Workman said he stopped at warning but did not see the bus extended onto the tracks.
Paul Kelly, husky film performer, stands trial for the murder of Ray Raymond in a fight over Dorothy MacKaye. With evidence and arguments concluded, the eight women and four men jury is expected to reach a verdict after the trial resumes this afternoon.
Rome May 23 reports Henry Rohiman curate of Nativity Church Dubuque Iowa has been made Bishop of Davenport Iowa. Rev George Finnegan provincial father of Holy Cross is named bishop of Helena.
Paris May 23 Captain Lindbergh, famed for the solo Paris to New York flight, rejected the first film offer he has received. Adolph Zukor approached him to appear in a film for a fee, but Lindbergh declined at least temporarily. Friends said he may consider such offers later.
In Paris Lindbergh tours the Spirit of St. Louis and meets cheering crowds. He receives the Legion of Honor from President Doumergue, amid modest embarrassment, as American Legion officials hail the warm welcome for returning pilots. He worries about gear like socks and shirts as he contemplates further travel.

Stella Berbeles, age 4, of 1134 6th St NW, died from burns after falling into a bucket of scalding water used by her mother to scrub the kitchen floor. Coroner T C McQuate ruled the death accidental. the incident occurred Saturday night at 8:30 and she died Monday morning after failed treatment. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs John Berbeles.
New York May 23 In a vain bid to save his mother Barbara Wahl and 23 year old nephew Robert Hudson patrolman Walter Wahl a rookie cop was killed by smoke in a fire at his Brooklyn home Wahl ran back into the burning house to rescue them and perished as the blaze caused extensive damage a report of his heroism was filed with the police department by the fire marshal.
May 23 report from Hankow says the U S destroyer Pretle came under fire from the south bank of the Yangtse above Kwachow and returned fire. May 22 Hong Kong dispatch notes a new northward drive by the Jiangkow communist troops described as a desperate gamble for existence. Shanghai cabbie quoted in the China Mail says the Reds, once ruling half of China, now face renewed pressure.
Floyd B. Streitenberger, a convicted murderer, publicly professed conversion during a Salvation Army jail service. Commandant James Thompson led ten inmates to the altar as Streitenberger cried and spoke of his mother’s Christian influence, pledging to live a penitential life.
Former detective Streitenberger and his wife are set to testify as key defense and prosecution figures in a murder conspiracy case.
