A two story brick nucleus for an eight story building will be erected at 223 and 225 Tuscarawas street W Canton on the site of the News Exchange. George F B Melbourne holds a 99 year lease and will erect and lease the structure for stores and offices. W P English will manage leasing. The building spans 33 feet on Tuscarawas street and 100 feet deep, with a lobby linking to the Brant building. It sits on a site once home to Capital University. A bronze tablet from the old school will be moved to the new structure. Demolition starts soon with occupancy planned by September 1. The ground floor will house retail stores and the second floor will be offices. initial work includes two stories with foundations to allow six more stories later. Firestone and Christman are the architects.

Orphanage Dormitory Fire Sparks Miracle Escape

More than 200 orphans and sisters fled a St. Aemilian's Orphanage dormitory and church in St Francis Wisconsin when fire raged through the building. Two men and a woman driving by helped awaken residents and guide them to safety via a single stair. no injuries. Firefighters expect the blaze to be under control later.

Gunmen identified in Toledo as bank holdup suspects

Two gun men arrested in Akron were identified here as alleged members of a gang that robbed the Farmers and Merchants Bank at Sylvania on February 5, escaping with 2000 dollars. The suspects Frank Mitchell 21 Kansas City and Nathan King 27 Springfield Mo were identified by four bank employees after 17 other victims and citizens failed to identify them.

Pinchot Leads Brown in G. O. P. Governor Race

Gifford Pinchot held a projected lead over Francis Shunk Brown for the Republican nomination for governor by about 11 019 votes as 93 precincts remained unresolved. The Graf Zeppelin was sighted approaching Fernando de Noronha at 1 28 p m local time on May 22 after a 3605 mile flight from Seville. Dr Hugo Kiekener planned to reach the Brazilian coast with an overnight stop likely at Pernambuco or Natal. The airship noted winds as a problem and had passed the Canary Islands before reaching the Cape Verde Islands yesterday.

Canton Traction Co Seeks Stock for New Directors

Applications filed with the Ohio Public Utilities Commission request 15 shares of qualification stock for directors of the Canton Traction Co to organize a new operating company. It will issue 10 000 shares of common stock with no par value and 1 000 000 dollars of preferred stock to purchase NOP lines and equipment and begin business locally. The project involves ground holdings and car barges but claims the new company will not be connected with the Northern Ohio Power and Light Co.
