London reports successful British raids along the Albert Derhanancourt Nieppe forest and Bethune fronts. Paris notes one enemy plane down in an air raid on Paris with casualties. Chicago man Jesse Wilson, 24, was shot and killed by federal officer G. K. Berge at Spanish Fort, Alabama, after resisting arrest on a slacker charge. The incident occurred late yesterday and was reported today.
Secretary of War Baker said the United States was forming its first field army while he was in France. Maj Gen Hunter Liggett was drafting the plans and Pershing was also weighing the leadership. Liggett was expected to command the army.

The city promises wage increases for firefighters effective July 1 to attract recruits as the department remains eight men short. Two ex firefighters will return soon, four regulars are off sick, and new pay scales raise regulars to 125 dollars a month while cadets and seasoned entrants gain 112 and 904 dollars respectively after a year of service.
Reports from tornado centers in Iowa Kansas and Wisconsin say at least 22 people died and 70 injured. Lone Rock Wisconsin reports five dead, Boone Iowa four killed, Newton Iowa two dead, Dennison Iowa one killed. Kansas toll hits ten across Ellis and Rooks counties as wreckage spreads.

The War Department reports forty eight American casualties with three killed in action two dying of disease two dying of wounds and eight severely wounded three slightly. Notable entries include Lieut Robert H Long of Houston Texas and Corporal Elleen Bailey of Poca Virginia among others.
