Attempt on Kerensky Reported by Petrograd Cable

The Jewish Daily Forward's Petrograd correspondent says an assassination attempt on War Minister Kerensky occurred today and he escaped. All involved were arrested and the plot is blamed on supporters of the old regime.

Plans for registration of non residents in Canton area

County Clerk Charles Kirk and City Clerk W Edgar Jackson completed arrangements to register all non residents of Canton and Stark County for the nationwide draft on June 5. The plan covers those without permanent Canton or Stark County homes and directs non residents to be registered before June 5 while others register at their voting precincts. The city clerks will extend evening hours to facilitate registration.

Canton Woman Driven From Cuba By Rebels

A Canton woman and her three sons fled Cuba as rebels burned their home store and livestock. Mrs. Andrew G. Leidig and sons arrived in Canton living with relatives while Leidig, born in Germany, cannot leave the island. They described looting, burning, and a ten mile horseback escape aboard a sugar train guarded by U.S. Marines as they sought safety.

Lynching of Eli Persons shocks Memphis crowd

A mob of over 10,000 in Memphis, Tennessee burned confessed murderer Eli Persons to death in a steel cage on the site of the crime against 16 year old Antoinette Rappal. The crowd delayed the burn until Mississippi arrivals, then lashed him to a stake, surrounding him with gasoline soaked faggots as thousands cheered. A bystander flag incident occurred as a driver tore a U.S. flag and was restrained by police. Authorities planned to detain two more Black suspects named by Persons in a post confession.
