Fifteen fire companies and hundreds of men formed bucket brigades to tackle twelve simultaneous fires in a predominantly black district in Ohaha Nebraska. The fires spread over four blocks and were believed under control after two hours. Police and state fire agents investigate a suspected arsonist.
Crowds of about 1 500 gathered as a night of disorders erupted when seven local firemen kept back a mob enraged by dry raiders. George Ankefer and Edward Rowe faced potential charges, while Rowe was beaten and rescued by police.
