Civic leaders approve a community fund drive with a budget of 348 928 dollars. Volunteers form teams for field work and solicitation and will meet at Courtland Supper Club Monday at 6 30 for final instructions before the campaign opens.
A grand jury completed its May term session with eighteen indictments for violence and other crimes, bringing the two week total to 44. Cases include alleged rape, assault with intent to kill, firearm charges, false statements for credit, motor vehicle theft, and killings involving a truck and a school injury. Several cases remain open for future sessions and more than 60 witnesses were examined on Canton conditions.
A bomb partly wrecked the United States consulate in central Mexico City at 2:15 a.m. no injuries reported. Authorities deem a lone fanatic responsible and say the attack aimed to disrupt a recognition conference with Mexican officials.
Crowded Cleveland school near Camden, South Carolina, held graduation exercises when a kerosene lamp exploded igniting the wooden building. About 150 to 200 people, many children, were trapped on the second floor and perished or severely burned in the stampede for the sole rear exit.
The Canton community fund drive opens next Monday aided by Donahey cartoons prepared by J. H. Donahey and distributed through the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Bee Donahey secured eight drawings for use in Canton newspapers as the series began Thursday and will run daily until completion. Watch for them.

Police pursued him to Courtay and Third Street SW where he vanished into a Chapman Plumbing Co. building with an accomplice waiting in a nearby stairway.
Cleveland dispatch reports Josiah Kirby former head of the Cleveland Discount Co and his brother were arrested in California. The firm now operated by receivers Gardner Abbott and William L. David faces a suit in Los Angeles seeking about 1.5 million dollars. Kirby's California property was attached as the suit was filed under state law.

Verne Martelli Edward Duangel Deni Dellerba and Anthony DiManna were arrested Thursday night for petty larceny linked to a Wednesday burglary of Stark Produce Co. The group allegedly entered via a transom and stole chewing gum and a small amount of produce. Police recovered the items and the youths were remanded to juvenile court.

Howard Evans a 15 year old high school student living at 2229 106th street SW was accidentally shot by Harold Slingluff while three boys played with a loaded gun Wednesday evening. His condition improved Friday morning and he is at the Aultman hospital annex. Surgeons have not located the bullet in his head and will operate after the patient shows partial recovery from shock. County commissioners plan Friday to reverse Wednesday’s bid rejection for the Canton Middlebranch road project to improve the route this year. Surveyor Sickafoose had opposed bituminous concrete but later backed monolithic brick, with bids to be opened Monday for bonds.
