Washington May 17 Official Washington reports Germany will offer to submit questions in dispute to arbitration but Wilson and his advisors are unlikely to approve. Officials expect Germany will resist halting submarine warfare against noncombatants and insist on preventing arms shipments via passenger ships. The idea of arbitration is seen as opposed by the United States due to its stance after the Prinz Otto von Friedrich sinking of the William P Frye.

Charles H Barrick forty five treasurer of Union Metal Manufacturing died Sunday at 1 a m in Mer hospital. He lived at 702 Pabcard NW and had been ill since Monday. Born in Sherrodsville Ohio he spent most of his life in Canton. He served with Union Metal Manufacturing since its organization and was active member since 1910. Former district manager for Singer Sewing Machine Co he was well known nationwide. He was a son of J M Barrick former justice of the peace. Survived by his wife three children Mrs Hazel Schrigly Harold Barrick and Marion Barrick two brothers C C Barrick and J W Barrick all of Canton. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm at the home, body to Westlawn cemetery receiving vault.

Warships Sent To Rescue Ashore British and Italian Crews
Spanish warships have been dispatched to rescue crews of the British tank ship York and three Italian steamers driven ashore on the Moroccan coast in a storm off the strait of Gibraltar. Moors killed three from the York crew, wounded several, and captured the rest. Ransom will be offered for the prisoners. Also noted are army contracts for 2,000,000 pairs of socks for British troops and 15,000 double flannel body belts for French soldiers.

Turkish warship sinks Bulgarian steamer Varna in Black Sea
