Canton rolls toward its second community fund campaign as division captains are named and teams form for soliciting. Organizers expect to announce the budget and participating organizations next Thursday, with last year’s $350000 target and 18 groups likely to recur.
Memorial reports indicate George Jay Gould died at his Mentone villa in Italy after a prolonged illness. The 60 year old financier linked to the Wabash Denver & Rio Grande Manhattan Utah Fuel and Western Union and survived by wife Gui Jeanne Sinclair and two children. He fell ill while traveling in Egypt and sought care at the French Riviera before dying at 3 20 this morning.
The Northwestern University board of trustees pledges a $10000 reward for information leading to indictment or conviction for murder or manslaughter in the Leighton Mount case. A separate inquiry seeks to determine if Mount died by his own action. A skeleton found under a lake pier is identified as the missing freshman.
Ohio forecast calls for mostly cloudy and colder tonight with showers in the north and east and light frost possible in the southwest. Thursday should be fair with rising temperatures. Reichstag socialists number 43 are pressing debate on reparations creating government embarrassment.

Major item is a 530 000 double track between Navarrerd SW and Garfield Av SW, plus 816 000 Cleveland Ave, 812 000 North Canton link, and repairs on Mahoning Rd NE. Seventeen new cars will join freight service, including four trailers and two motor cars, built by Kuhlman and A C F.
Ethyl E. Robinson the harp soloist led a Monday evening program at First Baptist Church Cleveland where a union of about 1500 church women was formed. Robert Van Kirk of Chicago performed a Browning reading and Dr. W. W. Bustard was noted for a new supervisory role in the Cleveland Baptist district.
Edward Lang aged seventy eight died at his residence 817 Clevelandavy NW after a long illness Tuesday evening. He spent most of his life in Canton and retired from business. He is survived by one son Augustus C. Lang two brothers John B. Lang of Cleveland and A J Lang of St Wayne two sisters Mrs M Baethel and Mrs Rosa Klorer Funeral services will be held at St Peter's Catholic Church at nine o clock Friday morning with burial in St Peter's Cemetery
A male group from the Amalgamated Association for the Prohibition of Felt Hats roared to a Canton milliner at 3 AM demanding coverage of straw hat day. They presented a writ and argued for rights after a survey found most fashion leaders had not bought straw hats.

Herbert W. Hoover of North Canton, a Canton district Y M C A board member, has been named to the international YMCA board. He is one of 75 new appointees selected this year from a pool of 150 prominent U S business and professional leaders, invited by Dr John R Mott to join the board that oversees YMCA work in the United States and in supported countries.
The Canton protest against Ohio Bell Telephone Co.s proposed new rate schedule will open before the state public utilities commission in Columbus Thursday and run to Friday. Attorney Thomas M. Miller and James F E Kinnison represent Canton with witnesses E F Brownell and E C Wagner, who evaluated local company property. The city contends rates are unfair, appraisal too high in places, depreciation overstated, and challenges the contract with American Telephone Telegraph as part of the merger plan.
Mrs. Dora Bower aged 65 a housekeeper died in Providence hospital Sandusky Ohio after she poured kerosene on hot coals to hasten a supper fire. Judge Ake signs a writ ordering Mayor Curtis to issue licenses to Northern Ohio Traction Co. for two motor buses. Attorneys plan appeal to the court of appeals after a stipulation narrows the dispute to the right to operate gasoline buses. The company aims to start service immediately with universal transfers between buses and street cars.
U S District Judge John B K Sater of Dayton halted Federal sentencing at Montgomery county jail saying the facility is filthy and unsanitary and unfit for inmates. Five defendants were sentenced to the Miami county jail after arraignments following the last grand jury indictment. The judge indicated the jail practice of housing federal prisoners from other districts will stop.
