The city commission approved charter changes and adopted provisions for franchise utilities. Drafting members planned to mail out charters and explanatory pamphlets, with costs covered by their own pockets. The group aimed to complete the draft by the coming Saturday.
The finance committee plans to approve 50000 for a West Creek Valley park and 5000 for water prospecting, after Harbert’s request last Monday. Council members Zerbe DeCorps and Keplinger expressed support, with a July semi annual budget appropriation suggested. The committee, though yet to meet, will report by next Monday night.
A lightning strike hit a barn of Albert Hay in southeast Osnaburg killing ninety sheep and three horses. The barn burned, hay and farm supplies destroyed, with damage about 8000 dollars. No family members were harmed as the house stood nearby.
A final Pure Food and Milk Code was approved at a special health board meeting and moves to the city council for passage. Provisions require food to be displayed in glass cases or covered, foods to be organized into three categories, and items kept at least two feet above ground. The board plans to seek $8000 for an infectious disease hospital in Canton and will meet Friday to finalize provisions.

Nine people are dead and more than 17 injured after a tornado struck Seward Nebraska at 3 45 pm yesterday. The storm traveled from near Grafton to McCool Junction then Seward and Omaha causing widespread havoc and many injuries. The dead include Samuel C Crimm Mrs G W Edmonds Mrs William Hassinger David Hoover Mrs David Imlay Gustav Schultz Erma Schultz and Gustavs infant daughter. At McCool Junction a child of Thomas Riordan drowned and Victor Wasserman suffered a scalp wound and arm fracture. Additional Schultz family injuries and shock are noted.
Five graduates will receive diplomas at the First Christian church auditorium on Thursday evening. Rev Dr Peter Ainslie of Baltimore will deliver the commencement address. Dean Martin L Pierce will preside and diplomas will be presented by Dean Pierce. Prior events included senior program with essays and orations by Lewis A Kelly John F Bellville Ivan J Kinney C Mullin and C McGinty.
City service director orders strict contract enforcement for street work. Engineering will train 25 inspectors at city hall on detecting defects and ensuring good paying practices. Four new inspectors to be appointed after civil service exams. Safety director Dunwoodie urges contractors to install red danger lights and signaling devices at night.
Theodore J. Kostotasidi files a common pleas suit through his next friend Frank Knutsolulus against Carnahan Sheet and Tin Plate Co. seeking 1500 damages for injuries at work in the plant. He claims he damaged the fingers of his left hand while operating the shears.
Sam Randaggo, a laborer injured in a Tuesday cave-in while digging a sewer on Chance-ay near Fulton, is recovering. He was pulled out by the hook and ladder crew from the central engine house and taken to Ingleside hospital.

A. M. Martin of New Berlin area was fatally injured after leaping for his wife’s car as it rammed a barn wall and overturned. Mrs. Martin escaped with a dislocated shoulder and a fractured arm while the husband suffered multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung. neighbors and a doctor aided in freeing him after more than half an hour under the windshield.
Personal property reports show 270 horses in Canal Fulton and Greentown valued at 40400 while autos total 27 worth 1299. Assessor Reuben Cassler filed Greentown report and C A Brown reported Canal Fulton. These are the first of 66 countywide assessments. work began second Monday in April and is to be finished by Monday.
William K. Sarver was selected to succeed Phil H. Weber as city engineer after Weber was discharged. Mayor Turnbull refused to explain the reasons stating no statement would be made. Weber and Turnbull offered no further comments, noting only that Sarver’s appointment would help the city, with Turnbull maintaining there was no quarrel with Weber.
Canton will gain an extra gas main for emergencies. J J Mc Mahon of East Ohio Gas explains the new line will pass between Canton and Massillon, linking with existing mains to supply Canton during outages. The project relieves pressure limits in Cleveland and aids towns along the line. The four current mains already connect Canton with Akron Youngstown and other cities.
