The charter commission on Tuesday night defeated a bid to revive the preferential ballot and retained a 25 percent recall petition threshold while setting a two percent signature bar to nominate a candidate. All members attended, with Clark, Robinson and Turner aligning against the majority on key questions.

Albert Heilman pleaded guilty in police court to wholesale theft of bicycles in the pastar. He was bound over the grand jury under $500 bond. Albert chin alleged to have acted for Heilman in Waynesboro pleaded not guilty and trial set for Saturday.
Manager Zorn said improvements at the Canton Marable Ironworks had not been completed and the shop would likely not reopen until next week. If the striking workers return, fine. if not, the company will hire replacements.
A Canton tire, inflated to about 90 psi, broke free at Third and Market, flew through the air, struck a show window at Canton Engineering and Electric, nearly hit a motorcyclist, and caused about $20 in damage. Driver Ross Hively blamed the tire while Charles Zinninger fell but was unhurt.
Sam Randagan and Frank Chinqua were digging near Chanceau when a cave-in trapped Randagan up to his neck and pinned him inside a 10 foot deep hole. Firefighters freed him with ropes and planks as Chinqua crawled out with minor injuries, while Randagan was hospitalized with a broken leg and internal injuries.
