Enthusiasm ran high at the Ladies Day report meeting of the Community Fund campaign. Friday reports showed 90,886.78 raised, bringing the crowd total to 228,663.69, or 40 percent of the goal. Commander T. K. Harris presided, Rev. E. C. Herman gave the invocation, and Charles I. Morris led with the day’s top report at 85,232.38.
New York May 11 Details of John J. Raskob plan for an investment trust based on public savings were disclosed. Raskob, GM executive and DNC chairman, discussed forming two companies one to sell stock to the public and invest in seasoned stocks, the other to own downtown properties. He noted uncertainty about launching the plan amid high securities and strong markets.
A powder explosion at the National Fireworks Co. plant in West Hanover Massachusetts killed four workers and seriously injured foreman John Hanbury while several others suffered burns. The blast, heard 13 miles away in Brockton, scattered workers across 180 acres of facilities and left 112 women among the 350 employees uninjured.
A man identifying as Dr H D Costello attempted to cash a bad check in New York on May 11. He asked to take a headache powder, which police said was poison, and collapsed dead moments after. No verified records of a doctor Costello, with a Baltimore hat label and Washington tailor's mark as clues.

State to pay half the cost with $147 000 for the city section and $468 000 for the rural section. Contracts to be let jointly by the county and the state for the largest project in Stark County.

Mrs. Sarah Mason and Miss Viola Maxberry, both of Aultman, suffered minor injuries Friday night when their car was struck by a machine driven by Grady Dawson of Akron. Dublin May 11 The Irish Free State bill to shield jurors and witnesses from intimidation passed its second reading in the Bail last night. The measure is unusually drastic and reduces the jury to nine members for conviction.
Gene Howe of the Amarillo News Globe admits aiding a publicity stunt after Rosalinda Morini failed to thank him for flowers. He says he opposes artists who tour the provinces and notes the roses cost 12.50 a dozen from Dallas. He vows courteous treatment for Ignace Paderewski when he visits next February.

Washington May 11 The jail ban on reporters covering Harry F Sinclair the millionaire oilman serving 90 days for contempt of the senate has been lifted by George B Wilson director of public welfare Wilson said the ban caused confusion from the reporter swarm and not from any attempt to hide Sinclair’s treatment He expressed confidence in responsible press cooperation going forward.
