Brown warned progressives to avoid joining standpatters and noted the dangers of patronage and constitutional interpretations favoring privilege. In Chicago Senator Cummins Iowa called for an informal progressive Republican conference to draft a national intentions declaration likely to be issued Monday noon with 25 to 45 congressmen expected. Topics include calling a national convention and returning to progressive principles while erasing reactionary elements.
In Columbus on Wednesday night a man was murdered. His father Samuel Kelley identified the deceased as Samuel K. Wesley, a miner from Sanford West Virginia. Wesley reportedly left with $200, but none was found on his body and police have no clue to the killer.
