A large dog owned by F. C. Hos of 1215 S West NW bit a four year old Baxter in the yard. The dog, previously known for biting, was ordered tied for 10 days to observe rabies symptoms. Police follow-up identified the owner and the dog’s condition.
Washington May 9 report states Wilson ordered active service for Texas New Mexico and Arizona militia to guard the border. About 1600 militia plus 5000 regulars join Funston. units include the thirtieth infantry Plattsburgh New York third infantry Madison barracks Oswego New York and two battalions from Vancouver barracks and San Diego.
Raber Tschantz grocery in CaraWasst KE plans to close Wednesday afternoons in May and August. Clerks at the store discuss the plan and most attending workers favor afternoon closings on Wednesdays.
The United States notes cautious reassurance after Germany abandons the submarine policy. London May 9 The White Star freighter Cymric torpedoed off the Irish coast sank this morning after a Monday attack. Lloyds despatch says all aboard were saved, totaling 110 crew plus five English sailors from another ship. The ship carried war supplies valued near a million dollars and was under Admiralty orders with convoy protection.
Safety Director R J Kunkel urged Canton council to raise cadet salaries from 60 to 70 dollars a month, saying seven vacancies exist and cost of living blocks recruits. He notes officers earn 85 dollars monthly with uniforms provided, and cadets also pay about 100 dollars yearly for uniforms.
Conductor Arthur Mason fell from his car during a sudden lurch on Navarrest Tuesday morning. He struck his head, lost consciousness, and was taken to Ingleside Hospital where he regained consciousness after treatment. He had a slight head cut.

Report from Marathon Texas says eight American prisoners are held by Mexican bandits who invaded the U S and fled southward. A tramway worker named Nick escaped after being captured and walked 40 miles to Marathon. Prisoners include Jesse Deemer Monroe Payne Butler Hasbrouck Powers Frank Rowan and two truck drivers. The bandits claim loyalty to Villa and plan to present captives to his Laguna headquarters.
Safety Director Kunker urged the ordinance committee to redraft the rule after deeming it illogical to punish only automobile drivers for driving on cinder walks while other vehicle operators face consequences. The proposal was discussed Monday night.
