Bandits who robbed the Shanghai Pekin express have fled to southern Shantung mountains. They demanded ransoms of 50000 for foreigners 30000 for rich Chinese 10000 for well to do Chinese and 2000 for the poorest Chinese captives. A ambassadors council in Pekin considers action.
President Harding announced a cabinet meeting moved to 10 AM to decide on the fate of Americans seized by Chinese brigands. If rescue fails, the administration may deploy U S troops in China including the 15th Infantry Marines and Asiatic Fleet personnel.

The Canton Board of Education accepted the resignation of W. E. Strassner and named Leslie D. Hanson as supervisor of music and H. R. Smith as supervisor of physical education for all Canton schools.
