Iugo Gemmer of Cleveland survived after being carried for almost a mile on a locomotive pilot when his cake truck was struck and demolished at Bay Village by a Nickel Plate passenger train. He remained conscious and spent the night in Lakewood hospital with serious injuries but no skull fracture. the crash occurred while he traveled to Lorain yesterday afternoon.
In Everetttsville West Virginia a second blast at Federal mine No 3 of New England Fuel and Transportation Co. looms after a previous explosion killed 94. Methane gas tests rise daily as rescue teams work near air locks and oxygenless chambers to prevent further blasts. The 32nd body was recovered today by U S Bureau of Mines staff from Pittsburgh, not yet identified.
The Canton Community Chest drive reports progress after four days with total contributions at $266,134, far below the $326,xxx target.
