General Superintendent Douglass of the N O T visited Canton city hall to discuss moving a freight switch from West Fifth Street. He cited repeated failed attempts over six to eight months to find a new depot location and blamed Canton citizens for obstruction.
In Rome on May 6 reports say Melva Beatrice Wilson, touted as America’s foremost woman sculptor, is entering a religious retreat near the city. The Rome rumor notes the New York arrival years ago and a prior stay at the St. Regis convent before moving to Europe.
Schinas, the assassin of the late King George of Greece, killed himself by leaping from a police station window in Salonika while confined there. The report comes via Reuters from London dated May 6.
Following the 150 foot plunge of aeronaut Charles Carlson in Akron, the Silver Lake Aviation Co. will likely move all future exhibition flights to New Berlin. Work in Akron will continue and flight classes persist. A. H. Vayo cited the Akron gorge as a dangerous feature and noted instructors’ concerns about air suction when flying over the gorge.

Gallipolis Ohio mayor Harry L Cadot a Republican was arrested early today and bound over to the grand jury on an assault and battery charge filed by clothing salesman Charles Burnett
Mayor Hunt of Cincinnati says no criminal activity found in interests that defeated the Snyder intermediate franchise bill. He withdraws his demand for a jury probe in a letter to Prosecutor Turner. Also noted are a business relocation and an event advertisement.
Probate filing reports the last will and testament of Washington Myers who died April 12. He leaves all personal property and real estate to his widow Catherine with full discretion and no executor or administrator. Dated July 29, 1868, the document marks the death of Canton’s oldest married couple. Mrs. Myers is 95 and her husband 91.
Mayor Turnbull on Tuesday named Frank DeCorps Jr the city weigh master succeeding John Schilling. DeCorps is son of councilman Frank DeCorps and replaces Schilling, brother of the ex mayor. J T Rickard declined reappointment after taking a new job.
Passes are scouring the Cumberland mountains with warrants for Dave Hall John Hall and Tom Riddle sought for moonshining and the murder of Marion Ramey and John Sloan while Deputy U S Marshal Mark Potter was seriously wounded in an ambush. The search extends into Dickinson County Virginia where Artie Hall says she was dragged by Riddle after guiding revenue officers to the still.
A collie in Hartville is diagnosed with hydrophobia after biting livestock and a farm girl. Ivan Wolf and Blanche Miller receive rabies prevention injections, while other animals are monitored. State Health Board confirms rabies and serum is administered from New York. Fear spreads through the village as more animals may be infected.
Ballots are printed among eastern divisions to decide a strike by Canton area railroad workers. The Brotherhood demands a 15 percent wage hike. railroads refuse or refuse arbitration. If approved, W. G. Lee will issue an ultimatum and strike call.
A riot by striking hod carriers and laborers in Syracuse New York escalated with seven Italians shot by police and six officers injured. One striker mortally wounded. Authorities consider calling in militia as clashes continued.

Service Director Harbert indicates Canton may resume race water distribution this summer after reduced consumption since metering. A direct well-to-mains setup replaces the old two-step pumping and a new 2,000,000 gallon capacity pump will be installed at Navarre station, boosting water works capacity by 3,500,000 gallons daily and set to operate by June 1.

Safety Director Dunwoodie announced the building code commission would meet soon to finish work. The code, nearly complete, will span about 200 pages and create a city building inspector post to enforce material standards and construction regulations. It will set new fire limits and regulate overhead street signs before the council adoption.

Fred Smith R Fortney Texter and Benjamin exter Franklin Erk and A W Cloud arraigned in police court Tuesday for speeding in East Tuscarawas. Smith Fortney and Texter pleaded guilty and were fined five dollars each. Cloud proved he was not in the car and was discharged. Eric protested his innocence and his trial was set for Wednesday. Announcement also adver tised a Civil War drama From Sumpter to Appomattox at St. Cecilia ball Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with 25 cent admission.
