A confrontation between a gang of 108 toyidl and a posse ended with the bandits wiped out and a citizen dead. The incident involved two groups clashing in a rural area, with authorities continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
Five miles from Canton in Oberlin woods, two gang members of the Jiggs Losteiner group were killed and another wounded after a fierce shootout with Canton police deputies and posses. A second clash near the workhouse injured a county officer and a posse member. The bandits aimed to free John Stevens alias Oklahoma. Among the wounded was a Canton patrolman. a third gunman was mortally wounded. The deceased included Ralph W and Eddie Steavens. others were from Cleveland Buffalo and West Park.

The Canton Daily News thanks residents and officers who aided regular authorities in confronting an armed bandit incident on Thursday. The publication mourns the loss of private citizen Ralph W. Hoffee, praises courage, and extends sympathy to his family, urging law and order.
A memorial fund honoring Ralph W. Hoffee began Friday morning with voluntary donations from prominent citizens. The Canton Rotary Club voted to contribute 500 dollars initially and 100 dollars annually for ten years and assist in raising more funds.
