Akron dispatch reports a wage deadlock in N. O. T. negotiations with union leaders at 1 PM. Officials withdrew, unions met to decide arbitration or strike. Both sides favor avoiding wage cuts, with unions opposing any reduction and company resisting arbitration unless it lowers pay.
Ohio Governor Davis reprimands mayors for lax enforcement of prohibition. A letter to Lorain Mayor William Grall warns of removal if conditions are not corrected, citing statewide efforts by the new prohibition department. Chagrin Falls officials also advised to curb gambling connections with a race meet.
Rev Dr Roach Straton of Calvary Baptist Church condemned the theater as the devil s church in a New York sermon on May 2 describing it as a rotten proposition reeking with a famy

In Columbus Ohio a bandit gang raided the Elks club and two theaters before 1 am, gagging staff and forcing the night watchman to open safes. Police recovered part of the loot in a traveling bag. the Keith theater yielded about $1300. An officer was among the robbery victims as raids continued for hours.
Dr Silas B Post facing perjury and criminal operation charges toward a Massillon woman. A five physician examining board reports he is under narcotic influence causing mental confusion. They recommend institutional care and observation before trial. Trial delayed. prosecutors consider new steps to bring him to court.
A Soo Line train departing Minneapolis derailed two miles west of Rockford Minnesota injuring about a dozen passengers while another nearly 100 were badly shaken. Witnesses say a broken rail snapped as the rear coaches passed over it.
Providence May 2 A 15 year old boy Joseph Repose of Bristol confessed to police that a desire to witness real shooting scenes inspired him to shoot William H Thayer 62 a representative to the general court in Thayers farm yard The incident occurred in the farm yard and Thayer was seriously wounded
Elizabeth Bushman eleven, died as gas in her mother's kitchen range ignition burned her clothing off. Mrs Bushman, severely burned, labored to save her daughter in Dayton Ohio on May 2.
Leo Rogocensky and Walter Mar kle were arrested Monday by Bertillon Officer Clarke and Patrolman Vogley in connection with the theft of an automobile here Saturday. They were questioned by police late Monday.
MacDowell Club and Canton Ladies Chorus present a piano fund benefit at First M. E. Church on Tuesday evening May 3. Admission is 60 cents. Advance notices advertise the concert as a community cultural event hosted by local women’s clubs.
A Canton labor flare centers on a strike by twenty five International Typographical Union printers who walked out after employers rejected a 44 hour week. Shops affected include Baers Canton Printing Rogers Miller Anchor Printing Roller Printing Boyer Office Supply and the Reserve Printing Co. A large shop remains open with verbal pay agreement. Arbitration planned with bricklayers over scale while builders maintain 48 hours.
Burglars, exploiting the family’s absence, entered the residence of Prof A W Cloud at 1301 11th St NW by prying a side window and stole jewelry, silverware, and personal items valued at about $700. Loot listed includes a suitcase, traveling bag, a diamond bracelet, three diamond rings, necklaces, pins, and various silver pieces.
Newark May 2 report says 20 master bakers walk out at midnight after refusing to sign a contract. Wages 69 cents and 9 hour day are agreed, but employers demand open shop and the strike continues.
Boston May 2 Frank W Thompson superintendent of public schools issued an order banning school girls powdering their knees and showing them in classrooms. Patrolman J Wogley Monday arrested Patrick Peaume and Dan Gewart as suspects in the Patterson candy store burglary. The Peaume boy had chewing gum in his possession when apprehended and named his companions. All are juveniles.
Coleman Turner and George Ellis were given 30 day suspended workhouse sentences after appearing Monday before Police Judge Bowman. Police claim the men tried to steal a basket of sandwiches from a small boy.
Trinity United Evangelican church presents The Call of the Homeland missionary pageant at City Auditorium on Tuesday night May 3. No admission will be charged. a free will offering will be taken for the Union Gospel Mission. Public is invited.

Washington May 2 The Supreme Court freed Michigan Senator Newberry from prison and reversed the lower court sentence of three years and a $10000 fine. The court held federal corrupt practices law applies to general elections not party primaries and conventions. The decision leaves Newberry to serve his term with no fraud found in the vote count. associates including his brother were also released.
The Norwood bill to create a domestic relations court in Starsker is regarded as dead after the house failed to pass it before adjournment Saturday night. Newport Ky May 2 Four cases of whiskey were stolen from a government warehouse at Old ’76 distillery behind Newport early yesterday. Three men were held for federal authorities. Twenty two cases of loot were recovered from two separate sources.

The wholesale butter price fell to 34 cents a pound for creamery in tubs and 35 cents for creamery in prints, a record low not seen in at least five years. April prices stood at 48 and 49 cents, down 15 44 cents from March, with January 1 at 58 cents marking a 24 cent annual drop.
Columbus Ohio May 2 Joint conference committees began work to reconcile tax and appropriations bills. A nine member taxation committee studied Whittemore Dunn and Fouts resolutions plus a citizens' committee report. Governor Davis proposed this method in a Saturday night message. An appropriations conference was needed after the house failed to concur with Senate amendments. The measure calls for a 54 million dollar outlay for the two year period. The session extended into early Sunday and runs until May 12 with the house passing 61 bills and the senate 34.
Columbus May 26 United States General Daugherty reported from his home that May Day demonstrations were not spreading nationwide and that the country is returning to normal conditions. He said quiet Sunday gave assurance of calm nationwide and urged less watching and more working to support a patriotic program.

National Board of Home Missions will send an architect to Canton to consult Grace Reformed and Lowell Reformed churches about two new buildings. Each congregation may receive 14,000 dollars in aid plus a 30,000 dollar loan at low interest, with sketches reviewed for a shared plan.
Gladys Moore accuses her husband George W. Moore of forcing her at gunpoint to move to Damas Ohio to live with his parents and of withholding support. She says he took her to a Canton hotel, displayed a revolver and threatened to shoot her unless she followed him, then she returned after a short stay. Fisher and McCluskey represent her.
Altbert Baumann aged 28 and Edward Brandt aged 23, electricians, died from burns suffered at the General Gas and Electric plant when a short circuit on a large generator buss caused flashes of fire that ignited their clothing. Brandt died in a hospital early today while Baumann died shortly after.
Springfield Maas May 2 The Stevens Duryea Motor company increased production 60 percent today taking back 159 men and announced that the Williarminett plant will be running full force May 11.
New York City preacher Dr. Christian Meliner of Chelsea Methodist Church said in a sermon that New York women are more profane than any other people. He cited oaths used by women in subway trains and department stores as shocking.
All employees on or after October 2, 1920 must file their name and address with F. N. Albaugh at 123 Smith Ave SW to participate in BE. M. B. A. fund distribution. Names must be filed by May 10, as announced.

Roland Luke from North Canton sustained a severely sprained back and facial injuries after a two car crash Sunday afternoon at Woodlanday and 15th NW. Martha Thomas of North Canton received facial cuts. both cars were badly damaged. Luke and a companion were eastbound on 15th while Miss Thomas and her parents were southbound. one occupant was thrown from the Thomas vehicle. Police report Luke's home as North Canton. relatives could not be located Monday.
Tom Docking a Black man and Mike Kepalas a Greek are under police guard at Mercy hospital after a knife duel at Pearl Harris home on Madison Avenue Southeast. Docking is listed serious with neck and abdomen wounds while Kepalas suffers head neck and body injuries. Harris is detained on suspicion. Charges of cutting with intent to kill filed. if Docking dies the Greek faces murder charges.

Constantinople May 2 Efforts of the bolshevik foreign office at Moscow to induce the Turkish nationalist government at Angora to repudiate its agreements with the French and Italians have been unsuccessful. Conversations between George Tchit cherin soviet foreign minister and Angora are continuing. Hostilities between the Turkish nationalists and the French and the Turkish nationalists and the Italians in Asia Minor were ended by the agreements in question.
Akron officials report no further cuts in tire prices. Goodrich General and Maroon announce a 20 percent reduction effective today while Goodyear Firestone and Miller made no move to lower prices.
